Very dreamy - And I mean that in the sense that dreams seem to be disjointed, until you think about them a little while, and then unusual connections pop out at you. This is an excellent balance between tonality within the individual instrumental themes and the unexpected entrances.I like what you do with the dynamics- the effect is a little disturbing, but also fitting. This would be great for a backdrop for a documentary about the paranormal. Check out my latest song called What a Friend We Have in Jesus

. if i did it right, this is entirely in a whole-step scale. the unexpectedness is probably due to how i put this together: i stitched together pieces like a frankenstein monster, and then tried to smooth over the rough edges... the apparent themes are cut and pasted pieces that were subsequently modified. thanks Check out my latest song called One For Me

Nice reentry Bill I hope you had a good trip. I like the tension in this - the anticipation set up about 1/3 in and then having it resolved to a slightly haunting dance followed by some sly creeping about. Has a nice Hitchcock quality to it. Woah With headphones on it realy makes a difference in the listen. The placement in the panning was great. The part when the drum snare comes in its like its behind and above my head. Another great one! Check out my latest song called when its love

. the panning follows a traditional orchestra floorplan, just slightly exaggerated. thanks for noticing that. i didn't hear the snare drum effect you mentioned, maybe it depends on the headphones? I used a Sony MDR-V500 to set up the planning. what do you have? thanks! Check out my latest song called One For Me

. funny you should mention the high strings. i debated whether to transpose the whole thing down a little, since they seemed to be straining for the high notes. but i left it as it is. maybe that's part of the tension that Bud mentioned... thank you Check out my latest song called One For Me

I agree with Kristyjo entirely.... it has that ethereal quality that can either be magical or eerie..... such an excellent gathering together of these various 'doors' and I think the extra sudden ending adds to the mystery effect, cheers M Check out my latest song called A Soldiers Dream (Remix/record)

. using a whole-tone scale leads to lots of tritones - which is totally unresolved and usually tagged as scary. i guess that's what's happening here? thanks Check out my latest song called One For Me

. we're lucky to have a real symphony orchestra nearby and we buy season tickets. so i've pretty much memorized exactly where all the orchestra instruments are usually placed. that's the floorplan i used here. i learned something while doing this one: i discovered you can get a false final resolution for the ending by building a chord that omits the fifth (it's out of the scale) and substitutes a seventh. oddly, that works! thanks Check out my latest song called One For Me

wow! this is a favourite for sure. brilliant tensions, it feels like every note is a tension for the next one, and they're all revolving around this ephemeral center that's just beyond hearing, up in the psychoactive frequencies, down in your gut, swimming in your pineal gland. TENSE! Check out my latest song called Way Down FIlth

not just pitch but timbre and velocity, as well, go into the 'color' of sound. I was mostly referring to the closeness in tonality of your string and wood sounds (is there an accordion in there, too?). The sound spectrum there is narrow but distinct, like a carefully constructed group of yellows in a painting. I haven't finished my coffee yet this morning, so if that sounds bizarre, well...... I apologize! Check out my latest song called LIOLI 9 (Interlude)

. i see. i'd have to look back at the project to know for sure, but i probably had several different instruments playing in unison here and there. there are tons of possibilities when you start blending instruments together. i'm quite sure there is no accordian in there though - but if you hear one that's OK by me! and welcome back! I love those tremolo strings...sigh...I always want to use tremolo and never know how to fit them in. you used your string sections brilliantly in this piece, really creating moods and movement with the different string sounds. i didn't find this eerie at all - very engaging and full of uncertainty, but with a feeling of adventure and exploration. the ending is perfect I think...left me wondering what was found around that corner we snuck up on. this is excellent work Bill. very thoughtfully constructed in all ways. thoroughly enjoyed - thanks! . those tremolo strings are great for conveying tension - i used the major second one here - to fit with the whole tone thing - but i find that the minor second one is even more tense... music is strange stuff: this morning i relistened to it, and it reminded me of Harry Potter sneaking around the library in his Invisibility Cloak. thanks! doors perhaps your title is fitting, considering the multiple emotions this piece can draw from the listener. Whether it be tension, mystery, or trepidation, I guess it depends on what door you choose to go through. Nicely done with interesting changes and excellent choice of instrumentaion.
