Now that's what I mean!
Macca, this is exactly what I was thinking! You've left my very favourite part of Imogen's voice - the repeating "aahs" are her n'est pas? - and the lush instrumentation and percussion can soar independently of a mere mortal melody line.

The result is so much better to me although I'm sure others may disagree and prefer the Imogen version. Love the quality of your samples and the crazy way you put things together here.

Thanks for doing my own special version!

Neil

Oh, N'est-ce pas...
I wondered if you were introducing me to a new "jive talk", Sir. Had me goin... I didn't understand the "quality of your samples" statement either. Uh..., ea note was penciled with a velocity setting to create the differing dynamics. It would probably be a good idea to state that. I had assumed that everyone would know that but, i be wrong again. I think that most tend to use compression tools as a way to control things and I don't know anything about how to work with that those tools. Wish I did.

Thanks for taking the time to make these comments, kind words and all, Neil. I really do appreciate it. I knew without question that you weren't the one who gave me that first vote. That was either a child or it was, "the dinky penis man" of which, it makes him more like a freak of nature because, clearly, he doesn't have big enough jewels either... Macca

Uhhh...
sir, you might not be too impressed to know, that all I did was hit the little mute button to shut her lead vocals out. Probably should have done more, but maybe someone will do a solo over it. Dat be cool!

Anyhow, it looks as if most do prefer this version enough to at least comment on it. I was kinda surprised at the response or lack thereof, on the first fusion version, but not sadly. And I do expect that as I become more comfortable and able to express more of what goes on in my "un-tethered" little mind, that my audience will likely slim closer to a handful.

But you know, when you guys enter into talks about, what it is that Im doing musically, with the dissonance and all, you're giving me way more credit than I might deserve. Never am I ever mindful of the idea that there dissonance is present, except for on these IH pieces. And on her music, I keep thinking, "man she sure does make use of dissonant tones"... Yep!... Blamed it all on her! So after reading your comments, I looked up the word, "dissonant" and pasted it below:

adjective Music
lacking harmony : irregular, dissonant chords.
• unsuitable or unusual in combination; clashing : Jackson employs both harmonious and dissonant color choices.

You know what that means, doncha... LOL!... My bad! But, I just toss in what notes seems to be of the ones that resonates with my humble little being. Though posting these pieces has given me a lot of cause for thought... Like, why is it that I end up choosing notes, structures, beats or whatever, that renders me surprised by the reaction of others... Well... I've listened mostly to jazz since the age of twelve or thirteen. I remember when in third grade, the music teacher asked us all to bring in our fav tune. Hmm... I brought in a jazz rendition of "Satin Doll", which was originally done by none other than, Duke Ellington! LOL!... Once again, ashamed and embarrassed to be reminded, that I wasn't like all the other kids. The version that I took in was a jZ fusion piece done by, Donald Byrd, Mr. big time jZ Trumpet player/composer) and, Bobby Humphrey, a jZ flutist. Both were fairly instrumental in the ushering in of a new type of fusion that was built on what Miles D had established.

Uhhh... Yeah, my bad!... So there you have it... You caused me to learn about me and so, thought I'd share the makings of that.

As always, I really do appreciate your comments, Neil! Cheers!

interesting sounds
All the percussion along with the off key synth (I hope that's the right way to describe it) made this a very fluid jam. Its like trail mix with all the different percussion instruments you used. A little too short for me, but I guess I could always put it on repeat.

Sophisticated
Oh, cool chords! Very nice. The solo lines are cool, but they have that sort of jazzy complexity that I can't remember them, 2 seconds after they were finished. Is that good, is that bad?

davisamerica: do you know how cool you are ??

Every once in awhile, I believe this to be true, but thanks to my teenaged nephs, it's short lived and those thoughts be killed on the spot... Thanks for the nomination, though! Sir, I shall hold this honor tight to the chest for as long as I can, until the nephs take me down... they can be heartless punks, ya know...

What MJ is all about!
What a beautiful avant-garde sound you have going here. Reminds me of some early King Crimson stuff ("Lark's Tongues In Aspic" era...). With just a dash of the spirit of Mile Davis thrown in for good measure?

Stellar percussion!

Anyway, this works for me bro.

Be well!

Loved every
version of this - but especially with the vocals. They take the song into a new world.

how you do it
is beyond me - take a whole slew of instrumentation that is so traditional and compile it so originally - yeah, man

masterful.

Without the vocals
which were like another instrument, there is room here to add something more or make it longer. I just get lost, happily lost in this. You are a wonderful musician with a very big heart. My thanks for all the versions.

I always
find your compositions most unique in harmonic structure - real jazz for sure. This one reminds me of some of Metheny's free jazz work with Lyle Mays but adding the Tower of Power on horns. Coolio.
