Lyrics
It seems like you
and me are through
all the meaning in my life
has dropped off
the face of the earth

Just one more time
for me to see
the morning sun in your eyes
but I won't have to worry about that
anymore

These bandages
they bleed like all the other wounds I have from you
my thoughts came unglued
like you wanted to
I'm done with all the stupid games you put me through
it's *time* you can't undo

And then there's me
I just can't seem to see
the point of view from which your viewing
the situation
I should have run away, but

You
had me fooled
I raved and drooled
and told you time again
that time has tied my hands
I know this really fucking sucks
this time it won't work

I saw right through you
your bleeding heart over-flows with misspent virtue
you bet, nightmares come true!
it makes me wonder why
you're eating shards
of blown-glass eyes
to kill the time

don't let the door hit your ass on your way out

Best of the best....
Great to hear something new from you Scott. I hope it's only because you have been a "good" kind of busy. This is a great track man on all levels as per usual. Totally worth a D/L. Thank you.
Peace

thanks for the comment, mr mcblues! it's funny you say "painful and honest" because i thought the vocals in the intro verse were honestly painful to listen to. :) glad you liked the sad acoustic guitar tone. i didn't want it to sound too nice. in the intro i actually played with my fingernail, not a pick.

holy
this is really something, dude. really well structured song. the mix is so full and complete yet raw around the edges. i love the acoustic tone and your voice is amazing in this. seems like it's well suited to this style. I absolutely LOVE when the synths come in - so subtle yet totally effective. This is your sound, man. More.

moly
thanks ridd. coming from you such praise means a lot. as i was mentioning to feter, i didn't want it to sound too nice. i didn't even isolate myself, you can hear the hum of the computer in the background. and i tried to keep the vocals dry in the verses. this may be the only tune i've ever done where the vocals are too up-front.

Great tune dude. I like the electronic noise happening throughout. Also the quiet break with the muted strings. Very radio-friendly. Wouldn't be surprised to hear this on the way home today.

> "Wouldn't be surprised to hear this on the way home today."

well, i'd be a little surprised, at least. the pure logistics of it all... first i'd need to get the number of the radio station you listen to, talk to their programing director, convince him or her to play it in the prime time "drive at five" slot... hehe, j/k. thanks very much for the comment!

instrumentation
thanks! yeah, i tried to keep the production kinda raw. this isn't the best acoustic gtr sound ever recorded, that's for certain. and the synths are pretty eclectic patch choices - kinda there to serve a purpose more than sound appealing to the ear. thanks again!

i dig the certain amount of looseness that thrives in this. some awesome moments on the build up sections (intense) as well. cool confessional lyrics.

12parsecs said 2996 days ago (April 10th, 2009)
i confess
i was aiming for that loose sort of feel. i played a scratch track on the acoustic for the whole song - without a click track. i kept it in the intro (nose whistles and all) and derived the tempo for the other verses and choruses. so each verse, chorus and the outtro are their own tempos. sure, a little more work, but the song ebbs and flows (tempo-wise) how it would played live... or so i like to think. thanks for checking it out, vic!

whenever you feel the need
confess here. i'm so excited to hear something new from you. i was just listening to a couple of your songs on my iPod and thinking that i hadn't seen you around in awhile. this is gorgeous. absolutely stunning vocals. love the background vox. very cool contrast from the acoustic verses to the full chorus. awesome tune. thanks for letting us hear this!

for checking this one out, kassia! glad you liked the vocals... it's something i'm still struggling with (confidence wise, at least). thanks for noticing the contrast between the verses and choruses. i tried, not only, to make the choruses that much louder, but also to have them wide and the verses very mono in nature. cheers!

It's been too long...
... since I've ached to be able to download an MJ song. This is simply stunning. There 's a moment when you sing "This situation..." and the second voice comes in that sent a shiver down my back. When music does that I know it's perfect.
One of, if not, the best songs I've heard here, and that's saying something.
Thanks for this. It's made my day.

This is great - like a collision between Nirvana and Radiohead. Love the chord progression and the loud/quiet texturing. Your voice is great by the way - no need to be embarrassed by it!!! I will give some of your other stuff a listen.

jeeez
I've played this to so many of my mates. How do you get everything so perfectly placed, spaced and performed?? Vocals are spot on (and perfectly eq'd). That middle bit with the muted guitar plucking and drum beat (which is such a good beat) is just something else mate. I'd love to know how you got that acoustic guitar sounding like that? Is it really closely stereo mic'd and then had the mid eq boosted? I can't figure it out, but whatever it is its great. When i listen to your music it always sounds like a real band is playing as oppose to a single person overdubbing on a computer, it's like there's a dedicated singer, drum player, guitar and bass player, synth player etc, etc (i lose track of all the bloody instruments you play)
Anyway, it would be ridiculous of me to find something to 'critique' on this piece, and i know i could find a million things i find cool about this song, so i'm going to stop writing before it's too late.

Thanks for that

(p.s I'll tell you all about the New York thing soon, i have some (not overly, but relatively) exciting news)
(also, when can i get my hands on this song? My ipod beckons!)
