Dissatisfied w/ Echoroom

Description
I'm playing a show in a few hours and had a lot of nervous energy today so I did this. Thanks to Steve Craig "Echoroom" for the lyrics. A while a go he gave me a bunch of lyrics that I keep around and use when I need something good and quick. He's a great artist and pens a good tune. I don't always use the whole song - as is the case here - and likely rarely do justice to his talent.
This is a shoegazer.
I played my 60's archtop single pickup Guild on this one - along with bass and keyboards. Loopy drums round out the picture. Very little distortion.

Lyrics
American girl reading Anna Karina
Divorce the saint and marry the sinner
In time-lapse eyes your getting thinner
You just can't help yourself.

Love runs in, it's as big as a house
Lust breaks in and burns it down

Here it comes there it goes bye bye
Always dissatisfied
When you're closed, when you're open wide
Always dissatisfied.

Her skin glows hot under European sun
Look down, realize you're sucking your thumb
The waiter fall over, don't want to go home
We just can't stop ourselves.

Here it comes there it goes bye bye
Always dissatisfied
When you're closed, when you're open wide
Always dissatisfied.

Love floods in, it's as big as a house
You want to sleep but you've locked yourself out
You know where you're going to crash tonight
Don't wann meet ourself.

Here it comes there it goes bye bye
Always dissatisfied
When you're closed, when you're open wide
Always dissatisfied.

Bud!
wow what a surprise.. Can you lend me some of that nervous energy. dont know why but it gave me images of old B&W cartoons with no sound. I know that sounds silly but it brought me to special place. I would have to say this is one of your best! When I get to my mac its a definite download!

i was just noticing the title of this again on the music page, which kind of looks like "Dissatisfied With Echoroom" (as opposed to w/echoroom). sorry - just struck me as humorous, had to share :)

Sweet but,,
Hi.B..As a fan I just have to say this..It's way out of time..Loops can't catch up to the human groove..And unfortuanately this one is way out of sync..Great song..But lose the drums..Or rather loose the drums..Just a thought..JONK

I hear what you're saying
I went back and forth with the drums a few times between DOD and analog electronic and ended up with a mix. I think I'll try something altogether different. This happened in a hurry with no time to get distance.

nice of you to stop by. I bought that guitar back in '81 and used it for a recording and then it went in a closet for close to thirty years. I'm definitely into it again.

i have to scroll down so my eyes don't keep freaking out at that song art. lol...just kidding. love the laid back energy of this. your vocals are perfect for the feel of the tune. great modulations - really helps give this some movement forward, while still allowing it to just take its time. love this.

good taste
Kev,
You have great taste my friend....;-) What? No plug for the original? I'm crushed. That's OK. this is beautiful version, all new and very original. It's funny I was listening to my version just this morning on the train on the way to work, and then I come on MJ and see this. It's like a very cosmic convergence. Really groovy and mellow, Kev. That old Guild sounds amazing. Steve is a master and writes in complex poetic images. I'm sure he'll dig it, too.

Covered
Man, that's the 3rd version of this - a very covered lyric! This has a beautiful, sleepy feel to it - love the guitar on this, and your voice has a great sleepy quality. I like how you chopped the lyric - really works.

I'm very tempted to do a vocal for this myself.....

Psychedelic
Kev, this has a 70's dreamy head music sort of feel to me. Jonk has a point with the drums, although it's more of a "machine feel" that I think gets in the way (those open hats get a little predictable after a while) rather than a timing thing. I played with a drummer who fell into this feel really easily back then - awful trouble with rock, but had a naturally laid back approach which would have worked here. Guitars in particular sound terrific, and I like the words and music. Very laid back - and very enjoyable listen.

Bud,
Bud, this sounds great! And the album art really pops. I had a poster like that in my bedroom, around 1971 or so. And a blacklight, too, which was incandescent, so it didn't work so well.

Your track is nicely relaxed and has a easy groove. A lot like "Margaritaville." Your voice sounds a lot like Don McClean. Love the non-distorted guitar. Takes more talent to play it that way.

I especially like the vocal performance here. The lyrics are superb, with really haunting and provocative imagery, and you sing it with such world-weariness, and an edge of wisdom. your tune has a melencholy, dreamy feel to it that is very appealing, kind of like settling down after a hard day in your favorite chair and putting your feet up for the first time. with this tune you get to just sit back, relax, and let it happen around you. and that is an unusual talent, bud - kudos to you.
