For a Fallen Hero (extended)

by

richard13

 Genre: Ambient

Get Flash to see this player.

Description
An extended version (8:04) of my previous post, remixed to remove the traveling pan. The electric piano track was duplicated with each track offset 15 degrees from centre. Also, one track was shifted very slightly out of sync.

Update: Nov. 11, 2012
I have changed the genre following a suggestion below and, more importantly, added an image appropriate to the title and the date, Remembrance Day, although the tune was/is meant to honor ANY fallen hero, such as firefighters, police, or ordinary folks who do heroic things. Lest We Forget!

I don't understand
what you did but I think this is wonderful in so many ways. Clear as crystal and clean as a mountain brook; refreshing and energizing. Terrific. Thanks.

Hi Richard.......
It sounds great as you have it mixed at the moment. Enough variation and direction to keep me listening through from beginning to end.

I'll listen some more to try and hear the richness of your arrangement and production techniques.

Take care.

I can't believe almost half the hits stayed for the whole thing.
But I appreciate the compliment. Thanks, Paul. I'm happy you enjoyed it: I was a little worried that there wasn't enough variation.

fallen hero
i had to go get my headphones for this one. i'm really impressed with where you've brought this, richard. i love what you've done with the electric piano. your choices of where to place each instrument are interesting and really created a very full sound, and interesting swirling sort of effect in my headphones. this is a great chill-out tune. excellent work.

Coming from the creator of so many beautiful pieces lately
that's high praise, Shay. Thank you. I'm relieved the little production trick was a success.

Wow
This is great. I listened to this and was transported. Great sound, and the percussion is perfect - never too intrusive, but just ideal for the groove. Love the synth sounds. This has a haunting edge, but not melancholy or dark. Thoughtful is a word that springs to mind. Whatever the word is, this is great. Nicely done. Peace.

Wow
Thanks for the great response. Thoughtful is a word ... sorry ;-)
Seriously, I enjoyed making this. It was originally meant as a tribute and the extended remix went pretty smoothly, but became a different mood. I still enjoy hearing this myself after maybe 1000 listens. So happy you were transported.
Cheers

A quiet drummer
remind me that at the root of this is a musical story of someone who gave their all so that other would not have too. Love the feeling in this new version Richard. Melancholy, and quietly saying what it has to say without pushing too hard. No mean feat I might like to add.

Excellent wok my friend, thank you for sharing this.

the mind is clear
it is music of focused meditation. it creates a calm quiet garden, to arrange thoughts. perhaps the drums are slightly loud near the end. however, it creates restrained beauty. quiet, simple music is often so difficult to make. this is serene. 0x0

This mind is anything BUT clear
however, I am happy to have created a calm, quiet garden where you can arrange your thoughts and meditate with focus. Your superlatives created a giant smile. Thank you.

Great space and use of stereo separation
the slow slipping beat is very seductive and the piano figure repeat hypnotically. A bit of Portsihead is what I hear - and like.

Well, I've been accused of being spaced before
but never by a bud! Hey, thanks for the visit and the fine comment; I seem to have done something special here and I'm happy you enjoyed it too, given that you know a thing or three ;-) Your Spring Break collab with awigze is very special, as are those with Paul Page and davisamerica.

Nice kind of jazzy feeling to the groove ad mood. I like how you put in the hook-line melody from the xylophone every now and then.

Well...,
...just when I needed mellow, you gave me mellow. Needed my headphones to hear all your subtle pans and such, but it was worth it. This may be your best post so far. Well done... There IS a melody out there somewhere looking for this sound bed to lie in. I am going to keep encouraging you to find those things. Your "style" is getting more and more refined and sure. Nice.
Peace.
Paul

Do I love to hear this? Yes I do...
Thanks Kenta, I'm glad it's 8 minutes long too. Actually, as I was extending this, I worried that it might be repetitive so I made sure to vary the loop lengths a little which seems to have worked. Hope it helps you chill as often as you need it, but not often.
Cheers

Let There Be Thought.
The progression, as many have commented, is indeed thoughtful. It conjures a process of creation. I am drawn toward the mind of God while listening. He thinks for awhile; then, from his long-pent tongue, a Word sets everything quietly into motion...

Pretty seamless as far as the mixing goes. Good focus.

fallen hero
oh yes i really like this. it reminds me of the underscoring for black and white tv favourites like randall and hopkirk deceased (you probably haven't a clue what i'm talking about) = all because of the shady spookiness of the vibe. i'm seeing ufos and scully and mulder running about. love the way it goes sparse around 4.30
great percussion break at 5.40. you've done a really good job of maintaining interest and variation; these kinds of tracks can drone on and bore....but this one is still keeping me tuned in at 7mins. what is the pinging instrument i'm loving so much...it's like a xylophone. great track. thanks for the download.

Better than
a crisp sparkling spray under a waterfall in a warm grotto somewhere. Does sound better but I don't know why. The level of volume, maybe? Clueless. Grateful that you let us here your stuff. :)
