Description
The professor strode into class and set the black mantle clock on the table in front of classroom. "Behold", he said, his thick Austrian accent piercing the air,"a most unique machine. "Built to precise standards to carefully measure the seconds, hours, minutes, days, months, weeks ... the years." The old man paused while the clock's ticking filled the classroom. "Built to carefully measure what we've lost and to serve as a constant reminder of our mortality. "Yes, a most unique machine."

Superb
You really have a creative sense that defies categorization. This take so many nice twists and turns - it's constantly engaging and challenging. Love the description; sets the mental scene for something unique, and the track does not disappoint. Lovely sound as always, and a really terrific arrangement. Makes me think in spots of Pinback and in other of early New Order, but this is nothing if not original. Very cool. Nicely done. Peace.

musician ... too strong
You are a musician, I am simply an arranger and assembler and mixer, who has a ball putting stuff together. Thanks for the kind words. They mean a lot to me.

very cool.
the layers and broken beats are almost dizzying. thats a good thing. that kick drum or whatever that comes in at a few certain points in my right ear is also pretty neat. dig it.

Thanks
I built the whole piece around the "clock sound" which is a really chopped bass loop and then I added the drum tracks etc. I liked the feel of the "floor tom" accents and I may have over used them but I like it. Glad you liked it too.

unique indeed
Very special athmosphere, intriguing polyrhythmic elements. Title/story suit the music very well. Just one minor point of advice: personally I wouldn't repeat the drumbreak so often, or have some variations of it. Thanks for sharing!

see above
There was a time that I agreed with you about the drum accents so I took some, that were there, out. I was still wondering if there was too much but then I figured that if one is not bold ... the song is just old. I 'preciate the input.

a Most unique tune
I like the way this song builds even under it's minimalism... less is more here and love the concept of the narrative. Will be checking out your work more.

Less is more
There are times that I use the less is more but more often it is the more the better. I love the layers and the interplay between different elements and often lay them on thick. This is a bit thinner in its approach. Glad you liked it. Thanks for stopping and commenting.

Very experimental feeling. I can hear some Alan Parsons in there... Cool! Very pointed song, it fits the bill perfectly.

This is a bit different for me 'cause I avoided heavy drums and built the song in a different mannar than I usually do. Thanks for the thoughts.

YOU are a Unique Machine
Bill, and this is another inventive piece, a fun listen, and well crafted. It doesn't hurt that the preamble is inventive, pointed, and well-crafted.
Cheers

A little story
for the preamble to help set the mood and make a point about our obsession with the measurement of time. In my job I teach television and radio ... and they are all about time. Last week we had to have a lecture about time management in a live television setting. Maybe that is what set me onto creating this song.

Love the description Bill
And to that end the music you've created serves very well indeed. Interesting mix of sounds and tempo's. love the drum reminding me of time passing at an ever increasing pace. Very cool bit of work my friend, just excellent.

Like to keep it interesting
I spent a lot of my time in my earlier life listening to pop music and I think some of that has rubbed off on my "compostions" I like to try to hit the listener with something new and interesting at just about the time that he/she is saying internally "OK I've heard enough of that" .

Bill, the constant drum beat NEEDS to be there....it's the ticking of the clock counting down our moments. I'd like to hear it live with Rich playing the drums and the clock sitting in the middle of the stage on a marble-topped table. Good work!!! I want to hear more..........susan
