What genre to put this song in? I always say "rock" rather than confuse myself. I could probably put this one in the rock acoustic folk metal punk category? Whatever! I think this song really explores a lot of influences.
I wrote this song as I was dating my wife, and I think there are some references to my thoughts at the time in the lyrics. But I don't think it's all about that. I don't know. I think the "Crystal Ball" reference is a tongue-in-cheek view backwards, not forwards. It's like saying "oh sure, every decision I make is made with PERFECT CONFIDENCE. I know EXACTLY WHAT TO DO -- NOT." Heavy sarcasm I guess. It's also like saying "It's ok, don't worry, let it go". That's why it's a perfect day. It's a day when you realize you can't control everything and you just have to do your thing, and hope it will come out ok. Have a confidence in the uncertainty -- enough confidence to act on your impulses and dreams. On that day your crystal ball shows you the truth: a misty set of uncertainties, but the one dramatic realization and certainty that LIFE GOES ON! TOMORROW COMES! It's going to be a great day! Another day in the life! So don't miss it. I think overall it's a totally positive song. It's a progression, like life. That much is clear as mud.
If you start listening to this and you think you know what's coming... Let me say: I doubt it. Keep listening. Then let me know what you think. I appreciate your time!
There is a small timing problem at one point, it was so frustrating after putting in so many hours I just let it go. I hope you don't notice!
Thanks!
PS: The image credit obviously goes to MC ESCHER. I will probably change it in a few days in case it bothers somebody that I included it here. It just feels like it fits so perfectly to the lyrics... staring back at yourself... could you be the liar? Interesting! Lying to yourself then. I don't know that I did or didn't mean that. Works for me. On the net this image can be found at: http//w/...

Lyrics
Like a puzzle I am fitting all the pieces of your mind
I can almost see the secrets that you hide inside
Though no one can really read you
I can see that I am close
Even closer than you know
We walk together to the edges of the oceans of truth
Holding hands together we will dive
Together to the edge of the end of the world
and together we will fly
All the world will love you
if they look deep in your eyes
But if you stare back at them
then you might expose the liars
(all the world will love you)
It must be said a million times
that heart and soul are fires
but will they consume us all
as our noble race expires?
(heart and soul are fires
Will they consume us all
as our noble race expires?)
What a perfect day to be alive
I see it all so clear inside
with my crystal ball
What a perfect day to see
the sun up in the sky
With my crystal ball
I'd like to think that maybe
I could put my faith in you
So look me in the eyes my love
and tell me what you see
(put my faith in you)
For all I've seen and all I've done
it hasn't taught me truth
But what you believe can be a truth
won't you believe in me
(life hasn't taught me truth
what you believe is truth
won't you believe in me?)
I can almost see the secrets that you hide inside
Though no one can really read you
I can see that I am close
Even closer than you know
We walk together to the edges of the oceans of truth
Holding hands together we will dive
Together to the edge of the end of the world

excellent and some cool diversity to this. in a lot ways it has a cool melodic prog rock style that i appreciate. very deep composition and nicely mixed-very defined and clear.
excellent tune all right!
