I liked a lot of the controlled tension, expressed on the drums, on your voice, and even on the accoustic guitar.Your voice is meatier, more strong.Did you double tracked the vocals?It sounds very good.
The spacey section is also a standout.Surely one of your best, Vic.
A question: How did you manage to get this sort of "harmonica" sound out of your guitar?

keeping it under control
i wanted the synth drums to be sparse and try for a different sound then normal. on the verses it's mostly one vocal track with a double track a few spots. on the chorus I did 3 vocal tracks

the "harmonica" sound are 2 tracks played with a ebow and a phaser set at a fast speed. a additional guitar in that part is a volume swell with a lot of delay and reverb. i also thought the middle break was a trip too

.. I mean .. like .. it went like .. woah, then .. oomph, smack .. then I was like floating away somewhere .. then ..oomph. This is about as tastey as it get for my ears ... (hmm can you get taste to your ears?? nevermind ..) As much fun as you can have sober. Hot mix. Deep bows Vic. Love how you go up when everyone else might consider going down, cool effected drums and fine subtler usage of effectual noise .. powerful, big impact, hard hitting song. Did I say I love it?

this is the drop d tuning i told you about. the mixing went very smoothly on this one. just pulling back on the levels mostly, i wanted the acoustic to be up front as much as i could. i held on to this for a few days because something wasn't right with the chorus, then i realized the lines needed to start on the first beat not the second. big difference

I guess you have arrived, whatever that means. This song is so well done it makes me want to turn my computer off and just go about gardening or something. There's no way I'm ever gonna do one this good.

It kind of has a Beatles feel and sound to it from back when they were doing the Sgt. Pepper album, which is very cool my friend, very cool indeed. Killer vocal, great lyrics, and an amazing back track. Love it man it's going on the iPod.

	all guitars the only keyboard synth work is on the effected percussion and the ending. the single line thing that runs through the verses is though a filter effect. the odd section is with some ebow and fast phasers. and i used a pitch shifter in a few places. i even did some tapping at the fade out. just a bunch of fun stuff Check out my latest song called November

	atmosphere i love the opening with the sound effects and you really do a great job throughout the piece of using synths and percussion to create a very cool atmospheric backdrop. i love the way you've done the multiple vox tracks. this piece has great depth, lots of layers to create a very full sound. man I really like the prog/pop contrast you've been doing lately with the instrumentation, and the fact that you seem to be experimenting alot with different sounds. There's the spacey synth (almost like "What's Goin' On") and the trendy reversed drum sound and the jangly bright acoustic and then at the same time you've got your odd changes and prog lead/solos and those vox that always straddle the line between light and dark. Also like the slow tempo - is this a typical Vic Holman power ballad?

i had a brain splurge and came up with 3 songs in various stages at present. but summer starting and a lot of yard and repair work so I'll slow down a bit.

i liked how the acoustic came through so i tried to give that as much space as possible. lyric wise there's no reflection on me actually just words that tell a story. I've wanted to put a non-descript vocal in a tune for a long time this seemed like a good spot ....... i also reversed it.... cranberry sauce

Something new is going on. First, the lyrics... Your observations are some I can recognize as ones I have wondered about myself. "from the glare on the screen, opinions on everything"... but then we all have them...;) And also find myself guilty in sometimes being the "prophet on the corner":)

I feel you have moved on to a new level with your music. How you let the instrumentation sit back and support the message is very thoughtful and tasty done. The acoustic sound is brilliant and crispy clean. Just the right amount of fx's to add to the slightly feeling of a psychedelic experience.

Certainly one of your best so far Vic. In fact I'd hazard to say that as far as structure, playing, singing and production, this is your best ........oh, and writing too. Now, about the nits: 3rd beat in the 27th bar, there is a very slight, almost inaudible sound of a mosquito buzzing past the bridge pickup on the strat. I'm really surprised no-one else picked it up :)

I think this is my favorite of yours...
I absolutely love the acoustic guitar sound and how you've got them spread left and right... I also like the way you're using your voice... Sounds like you're stepping outside of and thus widening the spectrum of the 'Vic Holman Sound', which I think is to the good... You're retaining your signature elements but setting them in different contexts, and it totally works for me... There's also more spaciousness in this mix, which has great impact but still keeps plenty of air. I think the vocal and acoustic guitar treatments help that... I also like the almost bagpipe-y sound that I'm assuming is a guitar...

I thought this one turned out pretty good as well. Originally I laid down the acoustic thinking it would be the scratch track. But on relistening I noticed that it was there. it helps playing the thing about ten times a night, 3 days running.

i have been wanting to expand on change my usual style. sometimes i think it's easy to get into a rut and repeat what ya know.

Also I could get real bagpipers to apply for the job. ;)
