We were there
And the wind was blowing as I was running my fingers through your hair
Like a million thoughts running through my mind.
I fell behind.
Into a pit of perception
A new conception within your voice
And your kiss.
I was given a choice
Between right and wrong.
When I sang you that song
I made my decision.
It wasn't right, but it felt like it.
We sat in the dark with night vision
And you said you felt like you could pick up a rock
and throw it across town.
Distinctly I remember the sound
of your laughter
as it echoed through through the tone of your tears.
The anticipation of the morning after
Will burn in my gut years later
When the sight of steam billowing from your body
into the frost of the night air
Has left my conscious.
When the scent of your hair
Has stopped giving me that nauseous
tingling that you call butterflies.
When I say goodbye
To you
And us
