Description
Sorry, but had a bit of a writers block of late. You may notice some distortion in the vocals,so please try and ignore it - but on the positive side, included in the mp3 is a cut-out planisphere..

Oh the picture above is a still from a film called Ratcatcher by Lynne Ramsay.

Thank you - Richard

Lyrics
Cornfield

There is a wandering soul inside (I don't see you)
Hard is the road on which you find (Its all over now)
Why when each drop of rain that falls (Do you long for)
Someone to be there by your side (Will they find you)

There are days when you lose your way
Dont worry for it happens to all of us
Sometimes life just brings you to your knees

There are stars in the deep pools of your eyes (How they Glitter)
When you tell me youve nowhere left to hide (But I need you)

There are times when you lose your head
And its shows that youre human enough to
Begin a new found chapter of your life

Far away in the fields beneath the sun (you were so young)
The piper is calling us to run (fly like the wind)
High is the crackling ears of wheat (a million years away)
Time throwing wisdom at your feet (learning to live)

There are days when you lose your way
Dont worry for it happens to all of us
Sometimes life just brings you to your knees

Paddster....

you've got the gift me lad. This song sings heart, melody, and inspiration. I like the way you build it up in each verse. Piano (how I wish I could) just dances through the song. And the vocal harmonies in the refrain... just so nice. Thanks mate.

best regards,
Jack

Excellent song Richard,
that's lyrically well written and with outstanding vocals. Each verse seems to build on the last, and the chorus with the harmony in it is so beautiful.

If I had any suggestions at all, the only one that comes to mind would be to lower the level on the spoken lines just a little bit, maybe 1 db or at the most 2 and to add a touch more reverb to them. The lines are great, but to my ear they distracted my mind off the main theme of the song to where I had to play catch up to get back into where the verse was gong on the next line. It wasn't a big deal, just a minor tug away from the flow of the song.

Great song, love your playing on the piano and everything else for that matter. Very well done my friend, Kudos for a wonderful song.

Ed

Richard
Excellent song and performance. The mix is a little "interesting", but nothing a little dropping in the volume of the vocals couldn't fix. Overall, it seems like there could be more of the guitar to add some extra sparkle in the higher frequencies.

Minor things though - a very very good song!

Cheers from Oz,
Neil

Cornfield
Richard,

Being from Iowa of course I had to listen to a song titled "Cornfield" This is a very "British Invasion" meets "Billy Joel" type feel. Nice to hear a song in 3/4 time. Vocals well done, and I didn't notice any distortion. Your harmonies are well placed and sung in the chorus. I assume you did those as well as the "thought tracks" in the verses. Since this is titled "Cornfield" I'm wondering if it wouldn't be more appropriate in your last verse to write it as follows: High as the crackling ears of corn, sharing wisdom from the time you were born. Just a suggestion. Good transition from verse to chorus with a sweeping feeling that brings you along for the ride. Very nicely done. Alan

i know you probably didn't mean it, but to me it sounds like a cool old pink floyd tune (or something of that ilk). love the backups and the way they are treated during the verses. great tune.

Richard, you are just amazing. Its one thing to be a talented musician, but your gift of reaching right into where we all live is just wondrous. It makes me wonder if there is a novelist buried in that skin somewhere.

I'm ignoring the distortion
but I'm unsure about the free gift. I like this very much. To cherry pick from earlier comments, this reminds me of cross between Ian Anderson and Billy Joel. I really like the piano section in the middle. Nice harmonies too.

cornfield
this is a very cool song. I especially like your piano performance - in fact your choice of instrumentation is perfect for this tune. Also a very nice vocal performance, with excellent harmonies, and the not quite counterpoint method you used - the voice completing or even answering the thought is very neat. Very enjoyable and listenable song - thanks for sharing this.

I love the what you've done with the spoken vocals. The piano really carries it along so nicely (like a skipping feel to it).
Nothing else to say other than how much admire what you've done here (and on your posts come to think of it!).

I love the lilt to this piece
It moves along so effortlessly. Brilliant lyrics here, straight to the heart of the human condition. I like your use of the wet ambiance for the bracketed lyrics as almost a second voice or thought. This is a great tune Richard. Many thanks,

Doug

Terrific Tune
I really like the core spirit of this song, Richard and the harmonies enrich it, but as has been suggested by some others... notably sloparts and jguma... the production could use some tweaking to bring it into the balance it deserves.

This tune could make any easy transition from folk to folk-rock with the addition of some drums and bass, which would also add some punch to punctuate the build you have going in this song's structure. But no matter how you orchestrate it, it's the spirit in here that *sells* the song. ;)
