Description
spring is a great time to appreciate life

This is a new version of 52523 due to observations by apb and jiguma about "hiss". It turned out to be highend noise on the 3 slide mandolin tracks. I rolled off the highend from 12K up.

I listened to both
and I can't hear the hiss that was in the first version. This is a different kind of song Bill, but it seems to have an endearing quality to it that makes it hard not to like. Love the change of pace and instrumentation that happens about 1:24 into it.

All in all I'd say we can all "Appreciate" your efforts on this one my friend. Sounds very good, with a nice clean mix now. That and the fact that it's just such a pleasant piece of music.

In this part of the world,
...this is my favorite week of the year... All the buds pop off, the leaves come out, the flowering trees blossom, and the violets return to my lawn...

I really like how the introduction of unorthodox tones, textures and instruments, especially the mandolin bits, frames the more 'normal' synth sounds and gets them sounding fresh...

I appreciate this! :)
I feel like some weight has been lifted and I get to appreciate much more music now. I envision one of those live-action scenes in Sesame Street, showing flowers blooming to this tune. Does a Sesame Street reference give me away as a new father? lol

happy retirement! i suppose Sesame Street refs tend to be a give away, although i still catch myself thinking stuff like "Today is brought to you by the letter E and the number 7"

thanks!

you'll probably tell me you did this ina couple of hours, but to me it sounds like it took some time, care and patience. Great use of sounds, tons of melodic seasoning. Very springlike. Made me feel young again.

no, this project took quite a while to do. i worked on it in between several other songs. the oldest file in that folder is from April 11: it contains only the slide mandolin recordings and a click track.

i tend to have a few songs in various stages of completeness at any given time.

glad you liked the "seasoning" :-)

thanks

Cool tune indeed, the intro reminds me of that movie Kill Bill for some reason.
Well done as always!

Well
I didnt listen to the other version, but whats some hiss between songs huh? Love the middle reminds me of the beach boys in their smiley smile phase. To me anything that even comes close to smiley smile deserves a big bow and clap of the hand. Now what is the sound of one hand clapping? excellent!!!!!

some info
some of this song was based upon slide mandolin tuned "slack key"

the opening theme has two sequences of 4 notes: one goes downward, the other upward. Those two notes are what you hear the strings on a mandolin playing, one note comes from what's on the usual portion of string from the slide down to the bridge. But the other note is what you hear from the slide up to the nut.

Bizarre
swinging synths... Interesting start. Your music is so different and cool... sigh... I'm just an old rocker that knows little more than guitar, bass, drums and lousy vocals... I hope I have enough years left to learn some of this stuff!

Eclectic, at best. I learned some music theory at school, and read a ton about it since. I've listened to lots of music over the years. I once played guitar in an actual garage band and actually got paid to play! Once. Although live performance is an... [see more]
