And we raise two fingers to musical frustration ...
I can only imagine the skill and practice it takes to be able to do those light little runs of fast and delicate notes. It's the combination of the lightness of touch and the speed and virtuosity which makes your playing so special. You play with precision ... but not excessively so ... the soul of the music comes first.

Something else you're very good at - and I've noticed you do this a lot with the cello - is to use the instrument as a percussion box, either directly or indirectly ... thumping a beat out of the strings or the body in a way that blends perfectly into what you're playing. A holistic approach to the instrument in a sense ... as you're using the whole instrument and not just the obvious bits.

Self-indulgent? Nah ... it's always a delight to be drawn into your musical inner worlds.

My father was a drummer...
...and a damn good one in his day... so all my stringed instruments take on percussive elements. So much emphasis is put on a guitarist's left hand... but my right hand is equally important to me. It is a source of great pleasure to share some of these musical inner worlds with you... and I'm so greatly encouraged by your discerning ear. Soul before precision every time.

Hi Daniel.........
Just put this style to one side and keep it in your arsenal of techniques, to use at another time.

The fact that you play cello, piano, guitar (at least) means that your style is interdisciplined?? as to techniques and the power in your fingers from one instruments allows technique changes when playing your other instruments, that single instrument musicians don't have, and in the recordings that I've heard on Macjams, your multistyle techniques shine through and make each one of your pieces something special or surprising or unexpected.

I'd really say just keep doing what you're doing because you're accomplished and the music flows in your own special way.

Take care.

Paul

wonderful
decompressing and frustration can produce some wonderful inspiration. really gets intense after the half way mark. the gentle comedown near the end really shows you got it out of your system.

very nicely played

The cleansing of the Luna system is never quite completed... but I get what you are saying. I was just saying to a good friend, I refuse to believe in music blocks... I play through them. This was an example of that!

Glad to be of service
Playing out of a cul de sac is an emotional wrangle.... I don't normally post these kinds of pieces... I normally record them and delete... but sometimes it's good to post raw work and get honest feedback!

Not much I'd do except
go out and get good and frustrated at the state of things and then come back in and lay down another great track like this. Lord knows there's no end of things to decompress from these days. Just be glad you have a gift that releases and cleanses rather than frustrates further.

Acoustic Guitar
i think you're the most multi-talented musician i've ever known. it's just amazing how many instruments you play extremely well, not to mention your compositional and lyrical skills. i sometimes suspect you're secretly 8 or 9 different people, and one of which has more musical talent in his pinky than most people have in their whole bodies over a lifetime. and then specifically to this piece - good grief - it's sensational!

Wow Karen
I am actually quite floored by your comment... and feel extremely humble about exposing this piece. While I am schizophrenic by nature. I can assure you that I am of single flesh and blood... and that I fight and struggle with each and every instrument I dare to sit down with. I have a great deal of appreciation for your work, so your comment has a special resonance. I can honestly say that people such as yourself aspire me to higher things... and to take on more challenges. My deepest thanks!

I don't mean to fight...
The wrangle comes automatically... with both the instrument and my limitations. This is a style I have been labouring on for a while but have not really exposed. I'm glad you find it promising.

Why fight...
...the style or the playing or anything else. This is very pleasant just on its own terms and needs no explanation or apology. You are one talented man, Daniel, capable of moving from genre to genre, voice to voice, with apparently equal skill and ease. Always a pleasure to hear what's in your head...and your fingers.
Peace.

Dittos on all the above...
Improvs often disappoint me. Like refining gold, music takes time, heat and work, but, if this piece came together as you say, you defy my premise. I'd still bet there were many hours of practice and experimentation in preparation for this frustration cleansing decompression. Thanks for sharing.

AGT Works for Me
Hi LinaTrick
Nice to hear some AGT from someone else. What sounds like your version of rasgueado is very pleasant. I wonder if you can sing, or play this melody off the guitar. Nice space, this piece breathes and the half-step root movement and harmonics really enrich this experience.

Thank you sir
This is a Yairi DY84K that I found a while ago... and I've always wanted a Yairi. It is perfect in every way... lovely bassy tone.... pushes the air nicely for a dreadnought.... but for one thing, the frets! Too chunky and I'm fighting it. I should get it re-fretted but I'm stubbornly trying to play her as is!
