Lyrics
I live,
I breathe.
I breathe,
I live.
And, as I breathe, I know
No other thing can make me sad;
No other thing brings me such joy

I know--
And, as I know,
No other thing on this earth
Can make me sad.
No other thing.
And, as I breathe, I know.

What can you say?
No other thing has power to sway.
No other thing....

(I live, I breathe, I know
Your love for me is Eternal)

I live,
I breathe.
I breathe,
I live.

And I need
No other thing.

Thank you Graham
...it's all about the harmonies on a song like this, which is why I kept it simple.

Hi Misty.......
The words are sublime. They remind me of the Book Of Solomon, from one point of view.

(Old Testament and belief in certainty).

I have to listen a good many more times to assimilate this piece of 'concentrated devotion'.

The post-production work is excellent.

Take care.

Paul

Hi Paul
Thanks so much for your comments here.
I like that thought of 'concentrated devotion.'
Certainty, for sure.

sparse, elegant
really enchanting melody and harmony-writing. Lovely lyrics. I might suggest that the lone piano seems slightly too percussive for this and distracts a little, for some reason this vocal treatment seems to want a deep church organ under it, softer attack... but that would need careful EQ to keep it from interfering with your singing. I liked the idea of a ground bass through this, just not quite so "bangy" :-)

Hi Drak! :)
It was very nice to read your comments here. That piano...it was a stylistic choice I made to keep it up in the mix, as I wanted that percussive, almost heart-beat rhythm underneath the voice. There is a bass organ line there, which follows the piano so closely, that it may only be detectable towards the end, when it's exposed. I decided not to bring it up louder in the mix because I wanted those overtones of the piano to ring clear.
Thanks again for your thoughtful comments, and for listening :)

Ethereal...
When "Mystified" floated across my e-mail, I knew I wouldn't be disappointed with (and yet) another beautiful song, Cat. This is very very original in concept and in execution and the lyric tells the simplest and yet most profound of truths. Very controlled singing and an uncluttered counterpoint from the piano to ground your harmony. I learned some wonderful things from listening to this and appreciate your posting it.
Peace.

breathe
wow mysti. excellent chord progressions - grabbed me from the very start. your vocals are absolutely superb on this. it feels like the the main vocals are extremely well controlled and restrained, then the beautiful harmonies are a little more free and ethereal. all combined to incredible effect. this goes from minor to major so unexpectedly, back and forth, it's just breathtakingly beautiful. despair and hope dancing with each other. a masterpiece for sure. one of the best things i've heard in a long time. thank you.

A sacred space
The openness of your vocals and the sparse orchestration make this music surround the listener and gently massage their cares of the day away into the basics of being alive.

What a treat!

Peace,
Doug
