Description
Lyrics by Denis of Re-al. I've been sitting on this tune for years waiting to do something that sounded right. Hope this is it. A real change of pace for me...

Lyrics
Talk about the hard times
That I‘ve been through
Shout about it
It was just a phase I was going through
But I still remember because some things still stay true
Don’t tell you’ve been there
Because I don’t recognise you

I was bathed in the fountains of faith
But I’ve seen those lights
Still I was saved
It’s never been easy
When the hard days come
It’s never been easy
With a heart like a drum
Like a drum, like a drum

Well, I walk these streets, say one thousands times
I felt the body blows, saw those bitter lines
When it comes a time when the barricades are high
You know I’ll climb and God knows I try

But I’ve seen those lights
Still I was saved
It’s never been easy, it's never been said

With a heart like a drum
Like a drum

Still I was bathed in the fountains of faith
But I’ve seen those lights
Still I was saved
It’s never been easy
When the hard days come
It’s never been easy
With a heart like a drum
Like a drum, like a drum

Floored!!!
Way different from the original!

This is a fabulous song to cover/make your own. Your vox really shine here , they keep moving randomly around my head with the headphones on. I keep hearing Bono, Billy Idol, Jim...Lyrics are to be commended as well - Heart Like A Drum--says so many things, you choose.

You just took the prior recording as great as it was and just eased the speed back and ran with it. Great ambience and production.

Wonderful addition to XXX, slips in nice for a soft interlude between the rockers.

Thanks for posting this! Dl'd and archived :)

Cheers, Bud!
Thanks for picking up on the arrangement - somewhat different from the original. I think I was inspired to do something quickly (hence another's lyrics) directly after doing our work with Tom & Bob. Wanted to keep the momentum going, so pulled out an old tune to match. Glad you like it enough to say 'blows me away"!! Touched.

Thanks for that Char - I was thinking that Denis' lyrics were kinda gospel, so went for something like that. Pleased it held your attention, that's nice to know.

Real change
of style Jim.... love the synth sounds giving that open space sounds and your vocal sounds great .....so clear with those great lyrics. The whole sound/treatment gives the impression of someone giving themselves a good reflective subconscious 'talking to'..... excellent stuff, cheers M

Hey, Mo!
Great to hear from you. Not been up for a while, so well chuffed to get a comment from your good self. You're too kind with 'excellent', but much appreciated. the space - I was going for a Phil Collins 'In The Air Tonight' type of feel originally and these lyrics just seemed to fit perfectly and suit the whole sentiment of the tune.

God, I need to catch up with your songs, I must have missed so many, but got them all to look forward to.

ATB,

Jim

Soulful, heh heh! I enjoy the original song so much I thought I'd have a go at rearranging, 'cos all great songs can stand up to any treatment in my book. Glad you like it, Len. Good to be back in the saddle!

Thanks, Stefano

Can't claim any glory for the words - they are excellent and inspired me to do this. The original is a different song altogether, but is so good that it can withstand even my treatment!
