They Don't Think About That Sort Of Thing In Here (Feat Jiguma)

Description
A while ago I posted this song www.macjams.com/song/51963 and Neil, Jiguma, was kind enough to volunteer a drum track. Well we have worked on it between us and Neil added drums, percussion and a counter guitar lead to my original. I have re-mixed the track using Logic and this is the result.
The song content is still a bit bleak I am afraid, I did write it a long time ago when I knew no better and life was for exploring. Hope you enjoy.

Lyrics
I just got in, bin' traveling late.
And I pass through the departure gate.
Make my way to the bar
I've been running for too far
I look around what do I see
A world in abject misery
Truth and love are hard to find
Questions and answers in my mind.

Chorus
They don't think about that sort of thing in here
No they don't think about that sort of thing in here
They don,t think about that sort of thing in here
Don't think about that sort of thing in here.

Pick myself up I'm all alone
Got a problem with my phone
I'm slipping off my ivory thone
Guess I'm just accident prone
Hope and charity are well and good
What I really need is some one to love
no use looking to the sky
Just another slice of pie

Break

What if the hard rains fall
Deathly specters begin to call
Alcohol soaked brain
a ruptured and broken vein
So I'm back here starting again
Scribbling frantically with my pen
My last message to the world
Tried to run from it all

Chorus

'Goodbye, farewell and adieu
You know I really loved you
I know it's the easy way out
Never wanted to scream or shout'.
As I prepare to die
A single tear falls from my eye
I never was cut out for this life
I'm sorry forgive mr and goodbye

They don't think about that sort of thing in here
They don't think about that sort of thing in here.

This hits home
as I just spent a week in Denmark and did just that... Departure gate/bar/fatigue!

I don't think I could spend my life on the road. I like having a warm home to work on music in.

This is very cool!

I hope you enjoyed
Denmark. I have only spent a day in Gothenberg myself, had a mega open prawn sandwich. I am glad you liked it, your support is always welcome.

Nothing bleak about this
Music is full and rich. I think you sing this story well, and a fine story it is. Well recorded, nothing bleak, just the nature of the song. Fine listen.
Thanks!

Thank you.
My wife thinks it is a bit mornful, but then it is about a broken life. Fortunately I am blissfully happy most of the time, but you need to take a broad view at times. Glad you dig my effort.

Ah well..
you have to get through the crap. Just walk faster..to get out on the other side. Really soulful ballad and crisply played. Nice job, both of you. Thanks.

That is what I Did
When I was younger, so much younger....Ah well. Happiness is my usual state of mind. But, like an actor, a songwriter needs to take on another mantle once in a while.

At last!
Martin, I've really enjoyed working through this with you. For me this does your tune much more justice than the first posted version. The song itself seemed to have so much potential on my first listen, and I'm glad we persisted and "got it right" as far as the mix and timing goes. Hopefully all that time tweaking things with Logic Pro 8 will have taken you through much of LP8's inherent steep learning cure without too may "what now?" moments.
Thanks for letting me join in on this one :)

Bleak?
What the hell do you mean by bleak? I don't get that at all. This is a nice piece of work man.

Really like the lyrics. I can relate to this scenario---or one something like it---from time to time.

Nice arrangement. Fine guitar work.

Enjoyed!

Be well friend!

You Are To Kind
I thought of it as a bit bleak only in the sense of the character in the narrative and his eventual demise. I really enjoyed doing it and it was my first collab.

Nice tune Martin,
well played, great drums.
I would have set the tempo a little bit higher, but perhaps I`m wrong with that.
The melody in the verse is very nice.
It`s difficult to sing such long notes on an arrangement like this.
You`re singing very legato, that`s nice, but pulls the song slightly down.
It`s just personal taste, don`t get me wrong, please!

A solid song, congrats!!!!

The Drums
Are down to Neil, Juguma. It could be a litle quicker I admit, would certainly make it a bit shorter, maybe I will try a rocking version soon, it is one of those songs that started on an acoustic guitar, hence the sluggush style. Vocal wise I am not very good, I do think it would benefit a stronger vocalist. Glad you liked it. It is a big improvement on the original.

I'm partial to the occasional bleak song ...
.. I find it kinda theraputic in a solace kinda way but I wouldn't listen to it 24/7. Excellent balance in the mix, loved the counter guitar tone .. really loved the instrumental break starting at 2:48... shows of the song chords very well. Singing is a little wavery in spots and something in the melody reminded me of Lou Reed's "Walk on the wild side" crossed a bit with Neil Hannon's 'Frog Princess' kinda piano and pace. Thing about depression/suicide as a result of lost love and desperate loneliness- it's very, very common .. and songs about it are bound to not be everyone's cup of T for numerous reasons...and you do find them "in here" :) It's a kinda 'don't dwell on it' vs get it out of your system kinda thing and what is productive and what is counter-productive argument. Your imagery in the lyrics is heartfelt and very good and real too. Nice drum sounds too. Fine collab Martin/Neil. Now- time for a cheery one? :)

ouch
Pain revisited with this tune I'm sure, the thoughts we all get now and then, especially when your served a shite sandwich.
In it's simplicity, it reminds me of some of those old John Lennon tunes of pain, and lends itself to those thoughts of feeling a victim of it all.
But one sees you still manage to rise above it all to see another day.
