Description
A catchy little effort about that common ailment: losing things/people.

Consider this one an open collab for Macjams members - so feel free to do whatever to it, just let me know if your doing anything with it.

I managed to not only do a song in 6/8? (I thank-you ..lol) .. but I used that Eadd9 chord mentioned by Daugrin in the chatroom... yes, yes .. don't get carried away. :o)

Played with capo 2nd fret, the chords used are

E Eadd9 E E7 E Eadd9 E E7 E Eadd9 E E7 E
Where- are you?
E7sus4
I looked a-round,
D E ...
And you weren't there.
...
Am7 D
Perhaps you had something to do?,
Am7 D
To take up your time,
Am7 D Bm7 E ...
I guess I better leave you a message.

Lyrics
Where are you?
I looked around,
And you weren't there.

Where are you?
I looked around,
And you weren't there.

Perhaps you had something to do?,
To take up your time,
I guess I better leave you a message.

(And the message said:)

"Where are you?
I looked around,
And you weren't there."

Perhaps your under something-
Nope.

Where are you?
Where are you?

Country With A European Edge
I can hear the scottish influence, along with the scandanavian. Music like language tends to get absorbed into the conciousness. Like the blue grass harmonies. Very nice. Better ending needed I think. Oh and I like the drums.

.. definitely traces of me locale and roots in this. Hopefully a more serious ending will emerge from collaborations... we'll have to wait and see.

It's not finished ..

hehehe thanks :)- I left it very open after 1:28s for some elbow room for any collaborators to fill/play around with. I tried to be a bit tighter on the harmonies than usual too.

i really the sound of this - so much music is in 4/4, it's refreshing to hear 6/8! the vocal harmonies are nicely done.

thanks

.. it was fun to ride that 6/8 rhythm.... I might even explore some other time signatures in future... not something I've really bothered too much about to tell the truth but it does give a little inspiration boost.

This is amazing ...loved the feel out o it ...impressive vocal work ...
a classic sound here ...it can have alot of solo parts with many instruments
good job Alan ..this song Rocks !!!!

.. that 6/8 does give a nice little schwing to things. Glad u enjoyed it. Yup, intentional space left for other soloists etc.

Beatley
Alan - those harmonies remind me of some of the tight harmonies the Beatles used to do. I played my yellow tambourine along too - does that count as a collab?
I like this a lot. Is that a bass line or drums on the bottom?

lol .. It does ..
.. if you record it ;) There is a GB soft inst. upright bass plonking away a bass part .. but any of my parts/tracks can of course be removed on request. I would have made the GB file available for download too, but I suspect not having the plug-ins I used would be a bit naff. Glad you liked it so far.

Where is my comment for this song...?
This song is mighty good! I'm having a difficult time trying to explain why i like it so much...

It's kind of infectious and there's something unique about it. I really enjoy the rhythm of it and how you've orchestrated it, and the particular chords.

where are you
this is a really cool song. Starts with a kind of beat that actually takes a few measures to catch on, but once it catches, your grooving all over the place! LOVE the tympany in the bridge, and the strings. Nice cool beat in the bridge as we anticipate one more chor- hey! the song ended!! I definitely hear one more chorus afer the change, but then I often see little goblins running around in my closet at night too, so I don't know how much to trust what I hear!

Really enjoyed this one - thank you for sharing!

I think ..
.. those few bars to catch on was for me to also get in sync with the beat as well .. lol .. timpani is always fun. I think it will get longer like u suggest (minus the goblins) hehehe. Thanks Sigmund for stopping in for a listen, appreciated.

Alan
I love the content of this song- it's personal- in a way, hard to explain.... like I've sung this song before when I have my chronic loss of everything aphasia.... like you're talking to yourself whilst looking for keys, hat, wife, child, pager, phone, phone, phone, keys, keys, keys.... but finely nuanced. great arrangement and love the tambourine btw....

Thanks Wiggy. Thats ..

..exactly what I was after- you got it (don't lose it! hehe)... makes it (hopefully) easy for anyone to relate to- I like that common everyday occurance type thing .. but seldom sung about .. so why not? (they probably keep forgetting! Score one to the memory man!! .. hehehe. I think "key, hat, wife, child, pager, phone" could be used as lyrics!

.. I think I will tighten up that naked cello section a bit .. and perhaps add some more transition notes in the cello part overall (that I'm hearing now). Thanks for the vocal compliment- it seems the more relaxed, apathetic and care-free attitude/mood I'm in .. the better the vocals go. Hmm ..

Missing
I agree with what has been said above, but clearly the whole second half of the song is screaming for some ambitious soloists. I'll be noodling around to see if I can come up with anything, and hope that you get many others. A catchy beat like this should be a lot of fun to improvise over.

Take Care

powerful
This is an extremely powerful and confident bit of craft and construction, Alan. Until it hit the 1:28 mark I was wondering why you'd want someone to step all over this glorious mix, but now I see (hear).

I'm not very fast or prolific but if I were to help out -- and you wanted me to -- I could try to add some leads. Something along the lines of the left-channel lead guitar on Ed "SloParts" Wemmerus' Good Time Girl. http://www.macjams.com/song/52841. I've got some things to finish first but let me know if you want me around!

Hey
Alan, sorry I missed this one!

What software did you use to map out the guitar fingerings?

On the song what really shines in this is your vocals man! Excellent! The guitar work of course is gorgeous!

I've never tried 6/8 and figure I'd get badly lost at about beat 5. :-)

Thanks!
