The Wormhole #1

Description
This mix is my way of trying to depict, using a soundscape, what travelling through a wormhole could be like. This is an early draft towards a more polished and successful mix, hopefully.

I have tried to use the mix to depict the travel by using cascading echoes as opposed to decaying echoes, and there is a pulse, to add a movement or even beat to depict time taken to go from point a to point b. I'm not sure if I've been successful.

There is more than an element of meditation music in this piece, as the finished mix will be more peaceful and relaxing, but far out in space.

I would love your thoughts on my idea (from an original idea of Paul F Page) and if I've begun to pull it off. I know there are always lots of things that can be done with most mixes, but your ideas would surely be helpful.

Hi Daniel....
This is another new synth I'm trying, so the programming is a little new to me. There's only two PAD's used from the synth as the the other channels didn't seem to be in key with the music. Talk about untuned percussion having a mind of its own!! I'll get there eventually.

The period of the oscillator in these PAD's seemed a little too stuttery to me. I'll be working to iron this 'feature' out in later mixes.

I'm also trying for more meditative ambient music, using more conventional sounds so that the stilled mind does not become distracted by the music, especially if the listener is a musician and who tries to analyze what's going on in the piece whilst in the peace, so allowing the mind to defocus or wander.

Take care.

Alice in Wonderland...
through the hole, to a place where our conventional logic does not apply. Big, beautiful sounds. The opening grabbed me instantly. The quality of the sound has an unusual aspect to it. I know this might not make sense, but it sounds like I'm listening on a radio, like it's one step removed from the music we usually make with our computers. I guess you could call it a sheen that lies over the entire piece. It's a nice effect.

Hi Duane.......
Alice in wonderland. Mmmmm. Yes. I read all of Lewis Carol's work, years ago, and I've been an avid fan of his work and knowledge and skill ever since. For his literary work he is one of my hero's.

This mix is made (in part) with the newest soft synth of my collection, XWOF6-Pro, an algorithmic programmable unit that I reprogram and use for its MIDI output, which I then use for my layering in my pieces. In this mix I have actually used the PAD output as well, as they seemed good for this particular soundscape/idea that I had.

Stay tunes for more work using these newest algorithms and programming.

In some of the movies of the forties and fifties they used to put a filter over the lense for love scenes, well this is the Ambient equivalent!!

Take care.

Hi.......
It is good that my mixes are having the desired effect.

Spaced out is good as long as you just remember that when you open your eyes you will be back on earth, sat in your lounger, with the cold beer by your side.

There are more trips coming....Ambientle stuff.

Take care.

I enjoy creating music using computers and 'synthesized' as opposed to 'real' instruments. I have no problem using samples/loops in my music. Everyone does this every time they work with a track. I don't fit in any box and thoroughly enjoy working ou... [see more]
