Booties Wigglin'

Description
This is another song of my friend Jim's, whose album I am recording. It is a jazz-funk track. Thru the kind encouragement and suggestions of the MacJams community I learned how to use Midi-Drums (EZ-Drummer) and mastering programs (Ozone 4). This one is submitted for review by the community. Constructive criticism is welcome as I will be mastering about 20 songs just like this in the next few weeks.

About the song. The title of the song and why it applies is self-explanatory. I stole it from a similar named song by the Tragically Hip called Butts Wigglin'. My ears went bad while playing around with this in Ozone, all i did pretty much was us a 'warm tube' preset plug in and play with the rever to give it just a bit more sheen.

Rhythm and Lead Guitars: Jim Poulson (Ibanez Pat Metheny PM20)
Bass, EzDrummer Programming, Mixing, Production: Elevator_Funk

P.S. I'm also disabling downloading for this one since it's not my song, however, after the final mix is applied to the songs and we have a CD I'll see what jim says about posting a few of his tracks here on MacJams for free download, since his CD would not have been possible without the input of a lot of you people, i'm sure he'll be ok with it.

Thanks for listening, Brian.

Aww....
...this is COOL... Great playing and great recording... And yeah, you had me from the Calvin and Hobbes animation, but how cool that the music is this neat....

There was a time, years ago, that I thought that one of the most common flaws on MacJams was a stiffness to the music, and lately I find that I can't write a comment without using the word 'groove'... This has wonderful groove...

Has whispers of Steely Dan to it, though there's something in this that I like better than most Steely Dan...

Love the guitar, love the drums, and the bass is just right... By all means, lets hear about this CD when it's out...

thanks ed,
yeah that animation fits perfectly. You'd be surprised, i'm slowly turning into a Steely Dan type engineer the more and more we record. Actually, the guitar is recorded dry into the CPU and pretty much left that way without much effects added, which is also a SD thing.

WOw great playing!!
definitely a boogie woogie! I can imagine just crossing into Las Angeles, turning on the radio and hearing this tune while driving down the Palm Tree lined roads!! EZ drummer again!!! EZ, and Drums on demand seem to be the studio dudes (and dudettes) mainstay...

Midi-Drums
Mr. Funk good job with the Midi-Drums, some nice snare parts too. Maybe mix it up with some more fills and change to the ride cymbal at times. Make the listeners believe that they are hearing a real drummer! As for the guitar "HOT!"

Funky groove
This is a cool track....very funky, love the real feel to it, and as Ed said, the groove is back. Super groovy man...need some funky honeys doin wop wop, oh ya. This still has room for even a little more...maybe some B3 or a Fender Rhodes. Not that it doesn't stand all on it's own EV. diggin it...going into the party mix for sure.

nice man
the production is clean and refreshing. That warm tube feel is nice for this type of song especially because the guitar and bass are definitely geared toward that smooth and groovy sound. As far as constructive criticism... From what I am hearing on my system here the bass and guitar far overpower the drums (which you may have done purposefully). I think they are solid though and that they would sound good if a little more present in the mix.
Thats about all I got. Good job man!

thanks
i think you're right about the drums. I don't give drums much respect. I always want them to be quiet. I'll have to play with them a little bit to see if they can have more presence without being overpowering.
