Lyrics
Lucked upon a used DMC12 wagon
"lets let her spread her wings , wake up the silver dragon"
my baby said " I'd rather not get inside that tin can, plus we're broke"
but I just had to try it

you can't stop it my delorean
can't top it my delorean
i don't care what kind of crate you're in
you won't catch my Delorean

you can keep yr bricklin you can keep yr gremlin
i gripped on the steering, my hands started tremblin
this car was for real, like a knife on 4 wheels
blindin' you all with the stainless steel, yeah

come on baby let's go for a ride
where its 8 lanes wide just as fast as we please
this automobile would mean so much to me cuz
its better than drugs
and its bigger than jesus

clever
There is a good pop sensibility in the rhythms of the words. I actually listened to this before you left your comment on mine, so it was interesting to see that you heard my track too.

I like the last two lines about drugs and Jesus.

thanks
I appreciate the comment...

it occurs to me that some might be offended by the JC reference, I will use this space to explain that I was merely referencing John DeLorean's conversion to born-again Christianity following an ill-advised foray into the cocaine trade (albeit he was entrapped). As well as the famous quote from the so-called Smart Beatle!

A more likely response is complete indifference, but there you have it..

Anyway, thanks much for listening!

deLorean
no, my car is just a regular one. I can't remember how the idea for a DeLorean tune popped into my head. I do like the idea of a stainless steel car. Thanks for checking out the song!

The car that
was made famous by Back to the Future. You could write about all the expensive cars ever made. Nice tune. But they come and go. Nothing here lasts forever. Thanks.

nothing lasts forever
true of most cars, but the DeLorean's hardy, rust-resistant stainless steel exterior makes it different. ;)
thanks much for listening and commenting... I've been enjoying your music!

thanks feter
glad you liked it! it started life as kind of a Joni Mitchell-esque thing on acoustic guitar and the addition of drums turned it into a power pop kind of tune...

gremlins, vegas, pintos and delorean's you won't see those on the road anymore.

summer songs
I like summery pop tunes so glad it came out that way.
i thought a bit about the psychology of my including silly cars of the past in this song, but perhaps it's best to just leave that alone.... :)

HEy
On the last song you were grunting and singin like a hardcore metal slamdancer. Now its all back up harmonies and soft strummin goodness almost greatful dead sounding ith an alternative twist. I realy dig this!

hey hey
the metal thing is kind of experimental for me, this sort of thing is my "default setting" for better or for worse. Glad you dug it! I'd love to be able to do the kind of mind-bending, original-sounding stuff done by the likes of you, Vic Holman etc. Something to work towards!

Ah yes, an updated version of 409
Great track with a super sound to it and some righteous lyrics, Ah yes this takes me back to the Beach Boys and songs they and others did back in the early 60's. But of course none of those cars could compare to the DeLorean now cold they Alec.

Great track, cool lyrics and I like it a lot my friend.

The beach boys are of course, the "ne plus ultra" of this sort of tune, and one of my favourite bands.
Glad you liked it Ed!

Pop heaven
I like and admire the way you can dive into pop like this. I can't do it myself, and I consider that a weakness in a way. Great work!

I'm glad you liked.
There's lots of different types of music I'd like to delve into, but have a bit of hard time with...
funk for example... but I do intend to jump in and give it a try at some point...
I can always delete the song if it stinks LOL!

Wouldn't...
...that car go over well today? You sound a lot like "Tempie" on this tune. Do you know him?

Excellent lyrics, actually love them. Very well-structure song. Enjoyed immensely.

Tempie LOL
Hmm, I should admit that Tempie's songs are among my very favourites on this site. Influence is undoubtedly rubbing off. I've actually pilfered some of his ideas before.
Hope he doesn't mind the unintentional ripoff though....probably find out soon enough!
Glad you liked!!

This is a real hoot Alec!

Funny lyrics. Fine singing as perusual. Always dig your harmonies.

Cool understated lead soloing. Love that turnaround chord progression...

what would jesus drive?
ah boss this is a treat! this should be a K Records vinyl 7". i've been singing that chorus all morning. keep yr bricklin - LOL!

this tune does exactly what a car song is supposed to do - it makes me want to go driving. Love that groovy little lead too.

ever drive one of those DMC-12's? they feel just like a (2nd gen) VW Scirocco. would jesus drive a Delorean? with that mullet of his, hell yeah!

Impressed that you've driven a DeLorean, alas I have never even seen one!
So much for "write what you know" LOL.
I seem to remember seeing an orange Bricklin as that disastrous vehicle was manufactured not far from where I grew up.
As always, glad you stopped by for a listen!

brilliant
no shit, there I was, just browsing MJ and I see "My Delorean" as a top fan pick. It was already be favorite song ever. Then I heard it and my life was turned anew. "Better than drugs and it's bigger than jesus". Fantastic. Very catchy and a ton of fun. Hear you me, and I'm being serious here, this replaces "Bitchin' Camaro" as my all time favorite car song.

What an infectious song
I love it. Your playing is superb and the lyrics and vox are top notch. Really sweet soloing at the end. Reminds me a bit of Fountains of Wayne - who took it from Nick Lowe. Good company in my book.

FOW
I'm a fan of Fountains of Wayne. Paradoxically as a listener I'm not as into the smartass-type lyrics, but I have a hard time being angsty. (probably a good thing for me personally but bad for writing lyrics :)
I have to check out more Nick Lowe music. I heard a podcast of one his concerts recently (available free on NPR all songs considered.) - it was great.

Breezy thru tiny windows
Even through those little goofy windows, this tune is breezy! I don't know if you're into the geek-spy TV show Chuck but there was a PERFECT episode for this song, where one of the guys working at the fictional Best Nuy-type store spent his last dime on a Delorean that stalled at 20 mpg--money that his girlfriend demanded he spend on the deposit for an apartment they could move into.
