Lyrics
Sailor Out To Sea

sailor out to sea
looks a lot like me
why not go the way they said to go?

everything has changed
the land has rearranged
it seems the ship has gone astray

ocean tides are new
lost the older view
has the cruise become the final berth?

destination vague
new horizons made
could it be the trip is what has worth?

(c) 1974 Bill Grundmann

Reminds Me
Of a few jam sessions in my bedroom in my parents house. Chaos but some how organized with some dude yanking the pan knob on a clap out desk. Like it.

the old days were fun. crude equipment, horrible sound systems, but at the time it seemed great! i made a lot of tapes back then. i should dig out some more of them.

Just like yesterday
I love the analog delay opening - and the buzz saw lead guitar - backwards too no less. Excellent. Not sure I can remember the Analogapalooza sign-in and pass. It was on my old laptop that died.

great job smokey
Nice picture also, I see you clearly in it. Sometimes it scares me how time works these days, I mean it works so fast. I was just a kid and now I'm here, and then... well just a few more years and they will pass so fast I already see that. I think it's so great how you have been doing this for years, and you have stuck with it. I really hear your history and changes in the embodiment of things like this song, as a concrete relic of your own past. I get the same feeling from hearing my own forgotten songs, from just 10 years ago. I guess when it all passes it is worth something that I have this sort of documented "soundtrack" about my life and growth as a musician and human.

On the song, nice melodic switch on the second (odd) vocal line. It lands somewhere between expected and unexpected, which for me makes it more engaging. And the electric guitar is great, with a nice flowing, kind of reversed sound. Did you do all the instruments and everything? Both of those two qualities are Beatlesesque to my ears, but some of it could just be the type of equipment that was available at the time.

I just love knowing that in 1974 you were actively making music. In a weird way it is a secondary reinforcement to everything you are creating in the present. Thanks a lot for sharing it.

this is one of four ancient songs i've posted.

i did all the instruments except the drums.

this was done on a 4-track. the guitar was bounced once backwards to sync it back up with the other two tracks, while doing that bounce, i mixed in a microphone doing the wah-wah effect with my mouth. i totally forgot what else i did on it, and even what order i recorded the tracks...

thanks!

Eclectic, at best. I learned some music theory at school, and read a ton about it since. I've listened to lots of music over the years. I once played guitar in an actual garage band and actually got paid to play! Once. Although live performance is an... [see more]
