Under reflection, take 3

Description
An old track of mine, with added awesomeness in the form of Boundless' soloing, also featuring the debut of my Oud.

The original version was all synth based, which I thought lacked some life. The first revision has 3 guitar parts by Boundless; this version has the ultimate mix. And as noted, my Oud.

wonderful mix
Gorgeous piece of drifty feel-good music... the added oud is oudstanding, Although there were a couple of spots where the Oud seemed to be almost piercingly loud in the higher freq.s, but that was minor, overall this is a crystal clear mix, as always, and a very enjoyable listen, loved the little bends here and there, expertly played!

Credit
I'll happily take some credit, but probably what you hear as the Oud is Bernard's Sitar (played on a guitar synth). The Oud only plays the theme, twice. All the awesome soloing is Bernard's work.

Good work, Vic
It's fascinating to hear yet another version of it. . .

The oud adds a nice new oriental spice to it !
Guess the sitar gave you the idea. . .

I enjoy also how the electric solo
becomes even more rock here. It's fun to hear that
- to hear a sound that isn't something I tend to use much.

Thanks for coming up with this and
thanks again for welcoming me in !

Man this is great Vic
Love the combinations of the Sitar and guitar. but being somewhat unschooled in exotic instruments, could someone please tell me what an Oud is.

No matter, the mix is wonderful, the production values are great and the main thing it just sounds wonderful.

Kudos to all for an excellent job

Ed

Oud
The Oud is the Arabic precursor to the western Lute. Somewhere along the line it lost its frets, so it's a bit like a fretless guitar. All the strings are double (unison) like on a 12 string.

Since it's fretless, it's easy to play the quarter tones that a lot of Arabic music requires.

Glad you enjoyed this.

Progressive
Good one, I like how it progresses. Drak mentioned and you clarified, the sitar is a little high in the mix especially if you back off and listen on small cheesy speakers. In the headphones it's not really noticeable.

Oud, huh? Where did you end up with so much omni talent, anyway. Mark of a good musician I suppose...

A very enjoyable listen
A Oud, I am afraid I have to do a little research as this is new to me. Sounds great and played well. Precursor to a Lute, that's a start. This is a fine feel good track, very uplifting and full of tone. As has been stated, the mix with the guitar is perfect, adding to the depth of the track. Thank You.

Takes me to Metheny-land
yet with your own disctinctive slant on the music. I love how the guitar solos and rhythm strumming seem to float over this easy sound bed. The use of the Oud and the sitar synth make this quite special as they fit really well in the overall orchestration and yet are unexpected sounds for what we think this style of piece will bring. At the outset I thought maybe bossa nova, and then as the build happens it goes somewhere fresh with each instrument that climbs aboard until you establish the lead lines.

I can't judge the mix from my laptop other than to say that I can still hear the detail of all the parts without things getting muddy. I can't wait to hear it on big speakers at home!

Lovely work here guys, really enjoyed the smooth almost introspective feel.

Be well,
Doug

Under Reflection
This tune has a very cool laid back "cool jazz" fusion thing going on. Very nice chord progression with some nice subtle changes right at 3 minutes. As the song builds there are lots of things going on but it all works well together. Nice job - thanks for sharing this.

both
you and boundless have a wonderfully creative way of combining instruments from multiple cultures and areas of the world - and making it all WORK beautifully! there are so many exciting textures in this song to grab onto and drift away - each taking me to a beautiful place. but stepping back for a big picture listen - everything works excellently together. a gorgeous flow - and excellent production. well done.

Very Atmospheric
Vic and with a modern slant to these 'old' instruments i.e. the 'bluesy bends'.... love the Oud and the relaxed dreamy feeling of the music. Really pleasant listening, regards M
