Description

This was one of my audition songs for the progressive rock band Oceans (from their new CD "Endurance"), based in Minneapolis and currently looking for a new frontman. I performed 3 of their original songs, including this one, on the live auditions 2 weeks ago. I was notified by email today that I got the part! We're hoping to come up with a few more new songs and start some gigs just around late summer. Over the years they have performed in some big clubs here in the Twin Cities, so the thought of that is now giving me butterflies in my stomach! You know -- the feeling of wanting something so much you could almost taste it, and when you actually get it you suddenly feel all nervous and uncertain... That's how I felt.

	Thanks! It's one of their best songs and one of their most vocally challenging songs. Most of their older songs were sung by a woman, so I had to stretch my vocal cords a little bit more for a higher pitch, so it came out more energetic. Thanks for the encouraging comments! You always give me more praise than I truly deserve! But I'm not telling you to stop! Haha! I discovered the band's ad by accident while surfing MySpace. Who would have thought? One day, I'm playing with loops on Garageband, some days later I'll be rocking it out live onstage with an established band. Life does work in mysterious ways. Thanks again, Char. You have been a source of heartwarming words of motivation.

I have always imagined I might have some career in music, but the practical side of me chose to go with a safe course and profession. That has derailed my plans to become a musician, but that desire never died. I hope that it will be realized through this new band I have joined. Thanks for your encouraging remarks. It is Macjams that rekindled my interest in music, really.

I was thinking about you the other day and wondering what you'd been up to since I hadn't seen you around MJ in a while. (I haven't been here too much myself.)

Congrats on the new gig! That's awesome. You really sound great on this tune. It's a little bit of a different sound for you than I'm used to but it sounds incredible. You really rock out on the vocals. Your so good at going from soft and tender to powerful in you vocals. It fits so well with this tune.

Good luck with the new band and I hope we all get to hear more of your work with them.

A lot of thanks...
to you and other macjammers who have inspired me to return to music. There was a time when I was in limbo insofar as what to do with my musical interests. I had a job and earning a decent living, but music, more than anything else, was what made me excited and energized about life. Now it's coming to fruition. Thanks for your emboldening remarks. Singing onstage is a different challenge compared to singing in front of my computer. This tune is their closest thing to pop. All their other songs are progressive rock and very different from what I usually compose and sing. I hope that there will be no clash of style and sound. Thanks for wishing me well!

Hi there again
i'm surprised you still have the same name. haha. yeah, it's one of those long time wishes that is finally coming true for me. I have put aside my dreams to become a pro musician for a long time, and finally I found the nerve to say YES this time. My fear is that it might come into conflict with my work schedule sometime. I will have to make wise decisions so as not to put myself at risk either way. Thanks for your appreciation and words of encouragement. There are many artists here like you who are more than good enough to go pro, given the right breaks. Will try to sneak here still as often as I can. Macjams has a lot to do with improving my musical sense, sharpened my skills and given me the confidence to say "Yes, I can!"

Macjammers have been my source of confidence in my talent. I thought I could sing, but you guys have made me realize that I had something special I should share. That's what made me decide that I should give it a try as a lead singer. It is a daunting task, but you guys have always been very encouraging. Without that, I would have been running scared.

I always believed there are lots of really great talents here that should be performing professionally. You included. I think the talents are there and thr opportunities are there as well, but the limiting factor have always been the willingness to give it your time and the desire to go all out to achieve it. I still am not sure if I have all those requirements, but I thought this is my time, now or never. Thanks for believing in my talent. It counts for much to know that there are people out there who believe I have what it takes.

Their previous lead singers were all female, so I have big shoes to step into. The band is not willing to lower the original pitch, so I have to challenge myself to sing the higher notes. Surprising to find out I have a better range than I thought I have when faced with that challenge. I am working on new compositions for the band, and this time the pitch will be more tenor-designated. I hope I can improve on what their ex-singers did to their songs. Again, thanks for the encouragements.

Alannah, my wonderful source of love and humor here at Macjams. Hehe! I love the fact that you haven't stopped creating more music. I always smile when I remember our IM conversations. When you said that some people here take their music too seriously and that it will not lead to any musical career, I thought I would like to prove you wrong on that. ;-) You yourself should be singing in a lounge as a professional singer. You have that sultry voice that fits well with jazz or classic rock. I met an old lady friend whom I used to hang out with in a karaoke bar years ago, and she was excited to tell me that she is now performing solo as a lounge singer in the Twin Cities. You sounded better than her, and more versatile. Go to craigslist and finds a guitar player or pianist who will provide you accompaniment and go get yourself some gigs! Seriously... Wishing you the best, goddess. ;-)

I have to admit that your feedback about my singing has inspired me to discover the rocker inside me. I am a natural when it comes to pop/rnb stuff, but the more I listen to your stuff and other people's rock songs over here, I thought I could really learn from you how to "rock it out." Thanks for the motivation and am really fortunate to have interacted with and learned from guys like you who are far more accomplished when it comes to other musical skills. I am always open to widening my horizons.

Love the chords in this (reminds me of a song by a local band "Azure" we heard here years ago), and love the music-writing/playing, the lyrics are great and fit the meter so nicely... but your singing voice definitely kicks this into high gear. The spot where the band "winks out" and leaves you holding that note was AWESOME. Sounds like a powerhouse team there, Leon. I'm crossing my fingers that you will all do more like this!

I just had my first rehearsal with them two days ago, and I showed up even feeling a little weak from a virus. We rehearsed my first composition for them, and it was a rocking song which to my ears sounded radio-friendly. The initial jitters are gone. I am ready to go full blast with a new set of repertoire that we are hoping for a fall debut onstage. I'm feeling energized. Music just inspires me, and as I said before, I didn't care if I got paid or not for this opportunity. I just wanted my music to be heard, and that's what I am hoping to realize soon. It's all for the fun of it, at least for me.
