Description

I had a "wow" moment when I heard Spitlogic's "Broken" piece. After hearing a few other mixes, I decided to go outside of my realm of comfort and challenge myself with putting something together using his amazing vocal work.

I hope my re-braking of his broken lyrics doesn't mess with the integrity of the original.

Those weren't kids - those were small fire hydrant vandals covering their tracks.

Ahhh 1979 in Harlem..... The Summer of Love.... the Twin Cities.... the Big Easy..... Those were the days!

I usually try to get out of hand at the 2 minute mark, but I waited this time. Sometime the suspense kills me, sometimes it just mortally wounds me.

You know Len, I took the edge off of the original bass line because it was so heavy. I'm glad I did, because I think it sounds better now, but I wonder what you would've said if you heard it....

You know something else? Everyone that ever replies to these offerings always have such different takes. I'll never confuse a MacJams artist with someone taking the easy route!

i agree with kingbee
there is a quality to this song that i couldnt put my finger on, but it resembles the fun and tightness (production-wise) of Yello. Overal a very diverse use of instruments, the cutting up of the vocals made it very personal in my opinion. It has the trademark of the 5ea for sure. I liked the groovyness from the middle onwards the best. enjoyed my friend! Love, Marc and Lisanne

You inspired me with your version, then I heard Justbase and then I couldn't stop myself.

You guys blew me away with your inventiveness. I just want to be as cool as you!!

(I zoomed in all the way to trim those parts - there were a few places that I had problems with, but I just kept moving things around til I felt like they fit somehow.

nice mixing and production on this. To be honest though dude, i didnt think the music fit the content. the lyrics are deep, but the music is this fun loving
immature almost dance music styled theme. i could have sworn i heard "la bamba" in there.
anyways the music is dope and produciton is hot, but i found the music
and lyrics contrast and contradict eachother. just my opinion though. cool stuff nontheless.

Trust me, I hear what you're saying. When I decided to take a stab at this, I was not taking the easy route. It might seem logical to create a score that marries the style of the lyric, but that's never been a thing that interested me. I rather try making mustard taste good on ice cream.

I confess I have a tendency to use those cheerful synth sounds in unlikely places. I just did a similar thing to my song about Hell. It's the dichotomy that makes it interesting for me.

I appreciate your criticism, because your points are valid. The music does not fit the content of the lyric. It was fun doing it and unless you voice your opinion, I'll never know whether it was good or not so good.

Thanks for listening and thanks for being honest.

This is 5 times wackier than any other versions, but probably exactly what I should expect from you. Sort of a bittersweet taste to those synths, but after a little while it tastes strangely good, sort of like... mustard on ice cream. Such an artist you are...keep it up! I think a new genre should be named after you, post-new-wave, we could call it FEA_Wave.
