Lyrics
the front yard looks like a downtown disco
with a state trooper standing with his hand on his pistol
and you're crying but i know its just because your angry
that you didn't get to finish what you started with me

but you and me are just like saturday tv
wiley coyote and the a-team
a thousand rounds of ammo and some TNT
but nobody ever dies
nobody ever dies

the cop's trying to figure out who to arrest
i see my xbox ass up in the flower bed
and your yelling at the neighbors but i know you're just angry
that you didn't get to finish what you started with me

cause you and i are just like saturday tv
wiley coyote and the a-team
a thousand rounds of ammo and some TNT
but nobody ever dies
nobody ever dies

hi craig
this is a brilliant song with even more brilliant lyrics.....
really...
and i hope it is okay to smile while listening.....
...the chorus-lines are very very catchy..
in some moments your tune, your stile, reminds me to Ben Lee..
i mean this as a compliment.
now i have to listen to your back catalogue.....

best from berlin

Xbox is a god to me
Another classic...
most worthy of the unholy trinity that inspired it. Maybe a little Kraftwerk in there too?
Like the stretched-out funky disco sections. I'm trying to gestate a funk track right now, I'll try not to rip you off.
You brought the chorus again of course.
and The word "xbox" always sounds good in a song...

unholy
i love my xbox. if you havn't heard the Sprites check them out. Their most recent album has a great video game song and a great zombie song. Can't beat that!

yeah you're right about kraftwerk. i REALLY wanted a vocoder for this tune but settled for the phaser vocoder effect on some of the backups.

Brilliant
No shit, my wife once tried to get me to write a Punch and Judy song. She explained the history of Punch and Judy and even wrote lyrics. I didn't capture her fire, but you may have. The lyrics are always a treat. It's what it must be like when you're in a relationship with Carrot Top. He wants to get all serious about love and his needs and you totally respect it, but you're still like "wow. But you're Carrot Top". But your songs are a thousand times better than Carrot Top. Bad analogy. My point is that you always get a perfect blend of quirk and philosophy. It's effortless for you, which makes is all the better.

quirk
My wife and I sat behind Carrot Top once on a flight to Kalamazoo. That's got nothing to do with your analogy just saying. anyway i get it, you're right, doesn't make alot of sense but i love silent film, the usual tragic combination of sad/funny, like Chaplin, and so i try to write songs that are like short silent movies. only not silent.

Nobody Ever Dies
I'm 100% convinced that you have rabbit ears on your tv set and 3 channels to pick from.

The reason I love your songs is that they are the exact story of my life. Every single detail. I spent an evening discussing the concept of cartoons like Road Runner where the villain never dies. No matter what falls on his head, no matter how big the bomb is, no matter if he has a tiny umbrella or not, he crawls out from under the boulder, eyeballs rolling and falls over. The next scene he has a giant rocket tied to his back and is wearing roller skates!

That coyote's really a crazy clown, and so are you.

You need to host a Saturday Afternoon Supershow of your own, singing songs and telling stories between episodes of the Justice League....

one bananna two bananna
we had a 13 in black and white until I was 16 and my parents "upgraded" to a color tv. and i'm young gen x so not like i grew up in the forties. they just got cable a year ago. so I spent my share of time with rabbit ears and tinfoil. and i would DIG a Saturday Afternoon Supershow! Like the Bananna Splits dude! I LOVED that show!

which begs the question
If Wyle E. Coyote is investing in those contraptions to kill the roadrunner, but the contraptions don't even kill him, why bother?

Bad Boy...Whatcha Gonna Do?
Nice paradoxical mix of a trashy story delivered in a cleanroom-studio environment. Like an episode of COPS viewed through the mind of a Brian Eno. Or maybe, due to the rhythm, I might compare it to some chilled-out B.A.D. In any case this is a good lyric delivered with fine vox and musical performance and mix.

cops
i was waiting for someone to bring up cops - you get the prize! that show has just ruined good old fashioned white trash friday nite.

man i do dig B.A.D. - and i probably am influenced by their wide open electric/acoustic sound. i'm glad you liked the tune - now i'm off to go check out Bob6stringer because i havn't been by your page yet...

String hits!
Love those string hits and that funky bass! IT's no longer enough to say "sounds a bit like". This is Tempie pure and simple. Craig you've nailed down your sound over your last few releases here and above all it's unique - no-one else "sounds like Tempie".
Needless to say this is already on the ipod

summer always brings out the garage and hip hop in my ipod playlist so i can't help thumpin the bass. and i always thought the road runner was kind of smug, i never bought that whole wide eyed "meep meep" innocent thing...

A-Team
I heard they are re-making the A-Team. How, and why I don't know.

Awesome song. Always love your quirky lyrics. So freaking original- and you can't teach that.
Musically, this is so funking funky.

Love it

i don't know, george peppard isn't doing much acting these days...but as long as they bring that cool GMC van back...

glad you liked the tune dude - i was trying to bring the disco...and glad you liked the lyrics too. there's a fine line between quirky and contrived and i walk it every day lol

Strange song, but also very listenable.
Like the lines in it and your vocal fits it perfectly Craig. Backtracks need a little fleshing out with something besides the backbeat after the vox is through, at least for my tastes. Maybe some hot guitar or synth lead breaks would work, but I'm not too sure about that.

Anyway, in spite of the missing leads I find myself liking it because of the lyrics and vocals on it. Good work my friend,

Ed

strange but true
hey dude thanks for stopping by and lending an ear. i've been playing with lots of space in my tunes lately, and on this one I wanted a really clean, plastic sound bed and some dead quiet breaks - i saved the lead for the disco jam at the end - those quiet breaks are a little shocking at first but i've come to like them. glad you liked the vocals - quieting things down and emphasizing the vox is always scary. thanks again for the listen and the suggestions man I appreciate it!

Irony, style, and craftmanship
all throughout this one, man, music and lyrics wise. The bassline is just too groovy, and I got to think of Beck here in some respect, although I can't really say why... Nevermind, I do mean that as a big compliment, btw!

beck is definitely an influence, i'd say more philosophical than musical probably, just the way that genre tempts him like a rock on the sidewalk beside a plate glass window. or something like that. glad you liked the tune and thanks for giving a listen!
