THE NEXT TRAIN Music & Lyrics: Richard H. Jones

Midnight train from Casablanca
Written stories in the sand
I never did turn round to thank her
She always seemed to understand

Refrain
But I'll be relying on her again
Before I catch the next train
Before I catch the next train

Never need to send a letter
She's never out of touch
Yet you might think the way I left her
I really didn't care that much

Refrain
But I'll be ...etc.

Yesterday
A small cafe
Far away
In the distance
Now my time
Is mine
And I'm
In rhyme
With my existence

I lie awake against the pillow
Adventure whirls inside me like a storm
Part of me is weeping like a willow
I know I have to leave before the dawn

Refrain
So I'm crying for her again
Before I catch the next train
Before I catch...etc.

Man, great harmonica. So smooth, lyrical, haunting. I'd love to know the process you used to record this. I enjoyed the bridge, the pacing, that cool storm moment, but especially that great harmonica. Thanks for sharing this.

Such a...
...mellow, easy flow to this piece. Your tenor vocal is extremely pleasant to listen to. It's smooth and partial cadences have little vocal "flips" that are subtle and really pleasing to listen to. I very much appreciate actual HEARING the lyrics. Much of what I hear at MJ is unintelligible without a lyric sheet. This is really nice in that regard. The harmonica is, of course, the perfect complement as an obligato instrument. You seem to have command of all the recording/mixing elements. Just a pleasure to hear this.
Peace.

Great Vocal
and a really good 'classic' type song.... I love the melancholy of the harmonica weaving in and out the background.... lovely pro sounding production and the vocals (again) are really good on this excellent song (takes me back to Glen Campbell's ' The Linesman' in style and treatment, really relaxing, regards M

Smooth and accomplished
This is a great listening experience. Harmonica and vocal are perfect but I also like the big drum hits as they pick up at about 1.49. The chords around 2.16 also caught my ear.
Excellent!

Lovely Song
What a great song, it really sounds as if you are on a train journey. The harmonica is just right and give the song the feeling of movement. The vocals are excellent and harmonies.

Very well done Richard, I love it!!
