Twilight in Vienna

Description
As is the norm, I've no idea how to categorise this tune. It started life as a couple of piano loops. I spent a great deal of time editing the midi and using the pencil tool in Logic. I made the rumbling bass pad [somehow - I can't remember how I did it!] and used tweaked settings from the Zebra 2 softsynth. A couple of the layers have been altered with the Space Designer. And that's about it.

I've never been to Vienna, but have been invited to go in a couple of months. I'm looking forward to it!

Anyway, have a listen if you like. Any crits more than welcome. Thanks. :)

Thanks
Spent a long time mixing this. One of the synths refused to be EQed. They sometimes have minds of their own don't they?

absolutely cool! what a great composition and combination of styles. I love that harpsichordy synth. there is a bittersweet, eerie sort of melancholy to this tune that is really neat. very well done. and enjoy your trip!!

I do hope the real Vienna is more neat than eerie when we visit in August! Thanks for commenting.

I noticed
in your bio that you make light of your musical skills. Maybe you should think again about that Dave. This is lovely nostalgic and light hearted work that brought smiles to my face.
Cheers,
Charlie

Kind of you to say so! But maybe my bio is about right. My musical skills, such as they are, are more in my head and not so much in my fingers. The software lets me get them out.

Thanks again for your comments!

Original
Great feel to this, some how I picture a music box with a figure on top spinning while conducting an imaginary orchestra.

Melancholy in Vienna
or Venice or even Paris. Sounds as if you are walking around the City for the last time before leaving the next morning. Melancholy is my favorite feeling and this song conveys it in a great way. Vielen dank!

(I'm still going through all the songs I've missed on MJ for the last couple of months and hasn't started making any music myself this summer. With so many new great songs to listen to I'm sure getting inspired, though, so hopefully before long...)

Hope everything is alright with you, David!

Nice one!
Thanks Henke - nice to see you back. Sadly, our trip to Vienna has had to be cancelled this year, so I won't be able to try the twilight thing after all! Maybe next year.
