I Should Have Known

Description
A song with words! I used an old mic I found in the attic instead of the noisy Mac built in mic. The GarageBand compressor gain acted as the mic preamp. All the rest is played by me via my keyboard. My wife likes the song. Let me know what you think.

Lyrics
I should have known
that you were leaving
I should have known
where you are
I should have known
how you were feeling
But I let it go too far

I should have known
I should have known
I should have known
now you're gone

Then I searched for you
to make my plea
I love you more
I love you more
than ever

Yes, my voice is seldom heard around here. I do sing in a choir, but never do solos, new territory for me. Glad you enjoyed the song.

Something new...
...Nice to hear you moving off in a new direction with your ballad. I especially liked the upbeat final stanza where your chording isn't quite so static. Gives the whole number a lift -- though the lyrics probably don't really call for a lift because they are so sad. ... But the fun is always in trying something new, and I am glad that you let us in on this.
Peace.

I started with the final stanza as an instrumental and the main verses as a separate short piece. It was fun trying to piece them together smoothly. Thanks for the insightful comments!

I did vocals maybe one other time in harmony with someone else. Definitely new territory for me. Thanks.

Wife is right
A sort of sadness to this piece. Like a man sitting at the piano who just broke up with his sweety, then it gets a bit more uplifting towards the end. Very nice dynamics.

I always try to listen to my better half! The song is about a break up, but we've been together for quite a while, with only a few bad bumps along the way.

Thanks for the listen. Singing is still a little scary for me. Maybe as I relax about it I will be happier with the sound of my voice.

The old mic does seem so work. Just need the guts to work on the singing. The glide keyboard sound is one of the presets from the FM Express Keyboard by Native Instruments, I tweaked it a little, to get the sound I wanted, but the Express software doesn't give you full access, so I am not sure if it is a squaretooth or not, it is a pretty clean tone most of the time though.

Nice to hear you at last bro. Simple, yet effective. Really nice change up in the middle!

Enjoyed much!

That's true...

Thanks for the listen. Only my second serious attempt to have vocals, trying to get the feel for what is the appropriate amount of accompaniment to set the mood. I've heard other songs that have extremely sparse accompaniment, but they have amazing voices....

Well done
Love the tune and the vocals fit very well. I especially like that synthy part. I can tell the mic is old from the slight fading out and in of the vocals, but that issue is minimal.

Good hearing from you. I can live with the slight fading, if the alternative is the noisy built in mic on my mac! Thanks

the heart you put into this Bill. Kudo's on the vocal. The AT mic worked out pretty well. What else you got up in that attic? :-)

A sad song
A sad song with a difference.... never heard you sing before Bill and this sounds fine the way you did the mic'. Love the lost and lonely sounding synth, which adds to the sadness too and the change about halfway though gives a nice lift, regards M
