Description
Vivian Ellis was a music master. In 1930 he teamed up with Jack Yellen to write this classic song. Fun to sing and fun to play, I hope it satisfies fingerpicking fans. It certainly tickles me!

I'd never heard this one!
Cool.. Thanks for posting it. Did you do guitar and vox tracks separately, or sing while playing? You sound so natural and relaxed! This song had good advice- if the bum wants to leave, help him pack. LOL

If your kisses..
Many thanks indeed, Roxy!

I sing and play at the same time and that means I can't tweak the sound level of voice without affecting the guitar or vice versa. If it comes out all right, well and good- I've done it in one take, but if it doesn't I use the first recording as a guide track to record voice and guitar separately.

Vivian Ellis was English and president of the Performing Rights Society which sorts out royalties for musicians. He was lovely man as well as a brilliant orchestral composer.

Well played
...and sung. Love this slice of Music Hall style. I really enjoy your singing and playing. Sounds like the first cut from a solo CD project. Wrap it up, I'll take it!

Well that's the kind of nudge I need! I've always got a lot of music ready to go so I'll get cracking right away! (When I come back from a week's vacation with my wife. First things first!)

Many thanks John, I'm grateful for your comments.

It doesn't seem to be a very well-known song but I used to sing it when I played the folk clubs way back! I'm really glad you like it. Thanks Feter.

Great stuff
Great guitar and vocal work. I like your enunciation and phrasing with the words.
Guitar and vocal levels are spot on which can be tricky if you record both together.
Best wishes

Thanks for your appreciation, Steve. As it happens I missed the very last bass note of the song and had to add it over the top of the chord so I suppose it wasn't quite one take!

It took me a while to play my new 000-28VS a little less forcefully than my old M38 (I keep forgetting I'm not trying to fill a hall!) and I've stopped using a thumb pick. It's made me relax a bit and play better! Thanks a lot for your comment.

It's a pleasure to record at home- studios can be a bit intimidating! - and GarageBand is so easy to use I often feel better about my recording before I've even started! When I think of the tension during a studio take with half a dozen musicians in the old days of tape recording everyone at the same time...!

Many thanks for your encouraging words, Bill

Aaah,
The sound of Martin. Thanks for this, Ken. A really likeable rendition. Sounds like you enjoy playing and singing it as much as I enjoyed listening. :)

I do!

Some time back I began to have trouble with arthritis in my hands and found it hard to play my trusty M38 with its narrow neck. I bought a guitar with a wider neck and it's rejuvenated me and my playing! I find smiling while I'm recording songs improves the sound too!

Thanks for your very welcome words, Rich.

There's a lot more where this came from! I'll get cracking on some more recording when I'm not moving house! (I've packed the microphones away somewhere!)
Thanks, David
