Description
I wrote this song about 11 years ago. Whoa. Just one of those sad songs to slow dance to at the sock hop. Vocals are rough stuff, but I didn't want to take the time to redo them. That's quality you can count on. Enjoy!

Lyrics
There's a time and a place for all you do
And I'm, I'm breaking away.
Cause, Oh. Your words. They cut me to the core
Can't ignore it anymore. We're drifting astray.
You're lying. Yeah, you mean not what you say.
Further everyday. Furthermore.

And time, you'll see, will be our only friend
Cause no one can help us out from here.
And you're gonna find someone who's more your type
And I'll be left with nothing but the pain.

And soon enough this stupid love
Will bury itself forevermore.
These nights will be lost in due time.
Giving this heart of mine more than you ever could.

And time, you'll see, will be our only friend
Cause no one can help us out from here.
And you're gonna find someone who's more your type
And I'll be left with nothing but the pain.

I'm blue over you.

Oh man! So good. True to your "nom de macjams", it sounds a bit like the smart beatle in his retro mode.
I don't hear the problems with the vocals... they sound really good to me.
Likewise, guitar sounds are a particularly tasty treat.
harmonies, lyrics also great. "you mean not what you say" ... that sounds kinda classic but I haven't heard it before...
Top marks for this one....

Thanks!
I always hate the sound of my voice, so I think every song description has me ragging on my voice. I've always loved the sappy 50's/early 60's songs like these. Thanks for listening!

spicy and sugary i can count on
Eric this is way cool.
I like the retro update style. Also has a slight "Oh, Darling" style with the straight piano chords and the guitar rhythm stabs. great vocals as usual dude.

Oh! Darling.
I usually list Oh, Darling as my favorite Beatle song. That or "I've Just Seen a Face". Odd, considering John's my favorite Beatle. I actually lifted the chord at the very beginning of the song and before each break from the start of "Oh, Darling". I'm glad you picked up on it!

John Lennon
had said that he really wanted to sing Oh, Darling. He thought it was a perfect song for his vocals. too bad it never happened.

Prom Night
Weezer meets Buddy Holly. Dig it. I have a tune I wrote in the same style. Maybe I'll get to recording it properly one day.

Your vocals sound good on this track. No worries.

Very nice one friend

I think you should get right on it. We could have our own Prom here at MJ. Enchantment Under the Sea can be the theme.

Thanks, Feter.
I was going through my old song book. Songs I wrote when I was 16 and 17. Some aren't too bad. Some are TERRIBLE. I thought this one could use a GB treatment. I'm glad you liked it!

Time as friend
Its great to recall why rock ascended to popularity: this sort of clarity, straight-ahead simplicity, authentic accessibility. Thanks for keeping the warts and all aspect of the track. Endearing and effortlessly enjoyable. Thanks for sharing this.

Thanks, Tobin.
I was considering not panning the mix at all and putting on even more reverb. I love those old records drowning in reverb because they were recorded in a gym somewhere. The warts were unavoidable... they just make more sense in a track like this :). I appreciate you taking the time to stop by and comment!

cool
i'm a sucker for these type of songs, and this is a really good one; good enough for Grease and Rocky Horror. That chorus is very cool, when you say the word "Time", it's really cool. Love so much of it: the trill on piano after each chorus, the last line of the chorus, the harmonies on "i'm blue over you," just a lot of really nice clever touches in this little gem. great job.

I was introduced to Rocky Horror at a much too early point in my life via my sister. Susan Sarandon was looking good, huh? I'm also a sucker for these tunes. I'm flattered you dug this.

11 years
shoot, I have some 11 year old under ware. Bet I have some tunes older than you are.
..... I like the keys on this, and the contrast between the relativly stripped down begining and the more orchestrated ending. nice straight up classic rock and roll. sweet harmonies at the end. Ever hear the valadictorian speech in the movie "say anything" she says "I've seen the future, and all I can say is ,Go Back."

Nice work. The piano sounds like it hangs just a microsecond behind the beat. I would nudge that track forward a bit. Is easy in Logic. Dunno about GB.

Piano
Thanks for listening. Your critiques are always honest, so I'm glad I didn't get eaten alive :).

I may try to do that. I actually applied a 1/16th swing to the piano part I played. It was sounding robotic. But, if it sounds goofy I may have to reconsider. Thanks!

A song...
.. yeah a song can be words, music and a melody. But it can also be so much more, like here, a touching and pretty little ditty with heart. This is terrific work man. I'm blue over this, wondering how to compete!

the lyrics in that first verse are amazing. I love them! This is an effortlessly cool song. The "I'm blue over you" bit is great, the vocal melody and harmonies work really well and generally the mix sounds really good on my hi-fi.

"Quality you can count on" - hehe
I appreciate the self-deprecation but your vox is always a treat; the guitar and key strikes are dead-on authentic to the old NJ pizza parlor jukeboxes I grew up digging. (Then there's that little piano flourish after the verses, which reminds me of the Beatles' postmodern treatment of the same sub-genre in "Oh Darling." come to think of it there's a very (John) Lennonesque feel to your vox approach and arrangement. Really neat.

As for the "rough stuff" in the lyrics, I can see changing some things to be more personable, i.e., "Yeah, you mean not what you say." can easily be "you don't mean what you say" and so on. But so what? Dig it.
