Description
SonnyJim and I collaborated to bring you this piece of experimental electronica. It features some creatively selected and arranged quotes from our dear leader, (who I personally hold in high regard, btw, notwithstanding his somber tone in this song, a reflection of the times I am afraid). I laid down the initial bed, SonnyJim added his magic in the form of arrangement, sampling, additional synths, cool blips and bloops, then I tidied it up just a smidge and sent it out into the world. Enjoy.

how do you do
Hey T,
Glad to make your acquaintance. Thanks for dropping in. I appreciate the listen. It is like a fragmented memory in a way, it has that fractured quality, a dream-like incoherence and misty transparence. Thx for listening. I will drop by your page to check out your stuff!

very interesting arrangement and excellent mix. Nice use of the whole sound stage and tonal spectrum - big space - lots of color.

Hey Kev,
Thx for the props. Tryin to keep the juices flowing. You have been an inspiration in that regard, always pushing the envelope, pushing newborns out into the world, experimenting with new forms, sounds, spaces. Thanks for the input, always appreciated.

hey
We can always count on you for a listen, thanks for the comment. SonnyJim did a great job making sense out of this one. It is a crazy tapestry, but was fun to compile. I'm liking the experimentation with different sounds and textures in this one. It's a little techno for me, but tryin to branch out and act a little more fearlessly with my posts. Not a precious.

New direction
I remember you saying a while back you wanted to do some different stuff - well, this surely is it. Great groove to this whole song and some real weirdness (I really like the rusty gate sound). There is something disturbing about the Prez's words cut up like this.... I'm sure I saw his eyes glow red ....

Hellooooo
Stevie ma boy! Howz the dark continent treating you my friend? Found a cure for your dial-up speed woes yet? I miss the old days, we have to get something new together, waddya say? SonnyJim and I had some fun with this one, one of the kind that kicks around the HD for months and then suddenly gets spit out warts and all to greet the world. Trying not to be too picky or too precious about stuff, just trying to keep the juices flowing. Bud has been an inspiration in that regard. Got your post on FB, can wait to hear the new mix.

Just beginning to listen to some of your stuff. Some really cool experimental things. I particularly like Dendrites. Really out there. You certainly have some very competent chops. I'm going to have to take some pointers from you. Happy to have you stop by, you have a new listener.

Those of us who manage the public...!
This one turned out very well, I think. I'm glad it's finally out in the light of day, celebrating its spirit of transparency and culture of change.......

Carry on, friend.

Thanks for your partnership on this one my friend, as well as your gentle nudging to get it out the door and into the world. See? I didn't think that the message was too dark. I think we all know the truth of it and that is what makes it so creepy. Great work on the samples, synths and overall skittering dynamics. It's always a pleasure.

love the a-tonal keyboard sequences and liquid elctric guitar - great thing about experimenting with samples is chopping em up n moving them around like a collage of bits cut out a magazine and pasted around to make a composition.I'd have liked to hear a snare drum come in at some point, but dont worry - thats just me attempting to keep up the tradition of putting in some kind of constructive crit in a sort of spirit of macjams way.Hope summer is hissing of summer lawns your way - to quote a joni mitchell album.Wonderfully creative and enjoyed! - Rich

This doesn't hold a candle to your new "Cabbage" collage. Listening to it as I type. Thanks for the listen. I'll have to take the snare comment into consideration. There is a snare in it, a lot actually, but it's a tiny thin techno-y snare you probably didn't recognize it.

conflict
fantastic mix - every sound is distinct and has its own space. love the sound choices too, the way the harsher sounds are tossed in with the "rounder" sounds - REALLY like that odd primal synth sound at 2:41. i'd like to hear this without the obama clips - nothing against him just imho don't know how much the clips add - i think the music can stand on its own.

well done
Tempie, you don't know how much I appreciate the actually criticism. You may be right, maybe the song stands without the vocal samples, but they are pretty sparse and don't dominate the song, so we went with it, especially considering the 'darker message'. The synth you liked is from Logic Pro's Sculpture plug-in, it's called Ice Drone if I remember correctly. Thanks for the discerning listen!

"We Will Defeat You"
Funny what you'll find doing a key word search...

Look at you guys go!

This was an unexpected pleasure for me. Plenty of interesting little happenings all over the spacious environment, but none of it gets muddy. There's loads of breathing room on this. I like those killer electro blips oscillating out of control here and there.

I'm not a fan (at all) of sampled voices from famous people (or presidents), but what you did here was more interesting than if it had been just lifted in tact from a well known speech and dropped in and repeated in that formula that is always used with sampled voices from famous people (and presidents).

I'm sorry to see bud's influence on you has caused you to push newborns out the window. Did I misread something? Seriously, Phil I appreciate your new attitude and I look forward to hearing you share more and be less critical of yourself. You and SJ have a knack for awesomeness, so surprise yourself and just let it flow and remember to have fun with it.

Bob

Thanks guys.

searching
Hey Bob,
Yeah, I think there is a lot more experimentation going on here these days, you Bud, RG Paddlers new song, and or course egobandit (the masta). Trying just to let my artistic freak flag fly. Understand you distaste of sampled presidents but we all have our moments of inspiration, and he is a powerful orator isn't he? Newborns must be pushed if we are to progress in our journey with no hold barred.

this
is outstanding. how did i miss this one? the page isn't telling me what you recorded with, but judging by the title, I'm going to assume Logic. really nice, wish I could get this quality going. i really like this very much, would love to hear a version without Obama as well. He's cool, but I really want to hear the music. awesome track. love that King Crimson sounding synth lead (right after the applause at the end of Obamas first cameo, and repeated every once in awhile). really cool.

Thanks so much. Sometimes with the more experimental tracks I need a handle to reality- which sometimes takes the form of a sampled vocal. Sometimes it just gives the song a name. Sometimes it sets the psychological compass a little tighter, I don't know. Maybe it's a security blanket. Maybe I just like the weirder songs to have some sort of lyrics. Yes, it is Logic Pro we used, the majority of the synths were Sculpture synths I think. Cheers.--P

Strange
Your doctered quotes sound pretty convincing. But why on earth would you do this?

The background is very nicely done. Do I recognize the UltraBeat "deep house kit" samples? I just used them for my latest track.

samples
Yup. The samples are from UltraBeat, hence the name : UltraBeaten,... with a wink and a nod to our dear leader who, with a little help, tells it like it is in this track. Strange? Maybe. Artistic license? Always.

that was unexpected! love the music, man, especially that 4-note descending synth lead. food ambience throughout too. kinda felt the vocal clips were a little loud in the mix but it's cool listening to something and having no idea where it's going. good stuff.
