Description
At a red light in downtown Sarasota, for about a minute and a half, I saw these two people who seemed to be new to the streets. And so it is.

Thanks for listening.

Lyrics
Layed awake and thought about
what it was I saw today.
Two lonely people living on the street
how long were they this way?
Everything that they both owned
they carried in one hand
the other wrapped around the waist
of his girl and hers her man.

Chorus:

They had a house on Main Street
had a swing in their backyard
went to church on Sunday
and they both worked really hard.
Their car was old but that's alright
they didn't go too far.
Now here they are.

Shadows of the building
help protect them from the heat.
People walking past them
look away in disbelief.
But the two of them pull closer
cuz they know what they both have.
A love for one another
and a bag in the other hand.

Chorus

Bridge

They don't live in the past now
they plan for what's ahead
Where we goin' to sleep tonight?
Where will you lay your head?
I'll be here to comfort you
when the sun sets in the West
and we'll watch a different shade of moonlight
Count the stars in the sky.
We're blessed.

Another day on Main Street
one that they don't know.
People look at them the same
make sure they don't get close.
I think that I will call them friends
cuz they're living in my dreams.
Hope I'll find the peace they have
and know just what it means.

Chorus

You're back - it is always good to hear your work... so natural and pure. This is no exception. I can never think of anything critical say but you just keep getting better and better. It's amazing how just a glance of a happening can cause such inspiration. And so it is.

Thanks Andy
Just been busy that's all. Not able to spend the time I would like here. Anyhow thanks for the listen. Ya know I do some pretty simple stuff. That's what I like that's what I do. I love to take a simple thing and turn it into a song. Some call it a talent I call it a joy.
Thanks for stopping by.

Hello Russ
You have a way of seeing things in the world, and turning them into a story for the rest of us. And I agree with awigze, you just keep getting better and better with each new song.

Very nice story telling Russ, with a clean smooth backtrack keeping it all together. Nice job my friend,

Ed

Hello Sir.
It is great fun to see something and make a story of it. This was kind of sad though. I saw 30something folks that dident belong where they were. The next thing I saw was the love they had for each other, just had to do it. As always Ed, Thanks for the kind words.

Nice
The guitars sound just excellent here - full and warm. I like the folk style your vocals have on this track - they're maybe a little loud in the mix but fit nicely.
Nice work.

I wish I had
1/10 your talent my friend for the straight to the core heart song! Between the amazing sounds you seem to get from your guitars to the straight up honest vocals, your tunes just punch right in and pull out the deepest of feelings.

I could honestly listen to your guitar ballads all day long and never feel I'm missing anything.

Simply excellent work Russ! I'm totally awed by your talent man!

And this 1/10 stuff, please. You are doing things I will never even think about attempting and doing them very well I might add. The 1/10 thing can certanly go in a different direction.
Thanks for the listen Mark and as always the kind words.

Great
job, guitars are really crisp and clear, delightfully melodic too, love the sentiments expresseed in the song too....someone once said, and I believe it was Ray Charles when asked...'why do you like country music?' he replied ,'cos of the stories that they tell in the songs'.You nailed that one here dude ,well done matey.

Very cool treatment on this song
I love what you extrapolated out of what you saw and felt that day. The progression on the intro is nice, the regular verse part would have been an "easy" way to go, but you did something different and I like it.

chronologic said 2958 days ago (July 12th, 2009)
sorry
What I meant was, you could have just recycled the verse progression as the intro -- it would have worked fine and is what people often do. But instead, you chose to make the chord progression in the intro more interesting than the verse part and I think that was a good choice. The verse chord progression is good because it is just supposed to be there behind the words. Anyway I just noticed the intro progression did something a little bit unexpected and was a longer more interesting progression than the verse part and I thought that was a great choice to expand the line on the intro. Make sense now?

You got this song from sitting at a red light for a minute and a half? You sure make the most of the musical moments. This is sobering and hopeful at the same time. If the church doesn't help them, it ain't the church. Love that can endure all situations. ahhh...
