Description
This an updated version of this traditional song, with a bit of an oriental instrumentation, slightly jazzy drums and bass and my banjo. some of the lyrics are new but keep in line with the usual lyrics you hear sung to this song, which is sometimes a blues and sometimes a country song.

Lyrics

In a warm rain on a summer's day
that's when she left me now she's gone to stay
yeah she's gone but I don't worry I'm sittin' on top of the world

Come on runnin in holding up a hand
Jump the line quick as you can
but now you're gone gone but I don't worry I'm sittin' on top of the world

In the old days didn't know your name
Why should I worry or cry in vain
now you're gone she's but I don't worry I'm sittin' on top of the world

went to the station down in the yard
slow movin' freight and an empty car
now you're gone but I don't worry I'm sittin' on top of the world

I give respect where it is due
some things got lost in respect to you
but now you're gone but I don't worry I'm sittin' on top of the world

no place for hate when filled up with love
can't be kept down when my home is above
now you're gone but I don't worry I'm sittin' on top of the world

I think Vassar Clements would like to hear this version.... I like this. The percussion gives it a Middle Eastern feel... then an Eastern feel in the banjo... I guess that's how it goes, ya.

Thanks!
Thanks for visiting and commenting! I just rarely have a chance to visit MacJams and when I do I get into all the little intricacies, like trying to organize albums using your script. I was doing that yesterday and noticed I'd deleted an older mix of this song that would go in my Traditionals album, and so I did a sort of quick remix of it and it was a great opportunity that was afforded by your enterprising ingenuity, so thanks doubly! I had typed in the first verse but somehow deleted it. I noticed that after I uploaded this but I'll get around to eventually putting it back. You're very attentive, and I appreciate that.

I'm happy to hear this one again. This song is a big part of what I associate with your style: experimenting very individual, very different, folk styles to make something new and somehow perfect together.

Twas in the Spring
Nice reworking of a traditional song. Like the world weary tone of your voice and the daring use of non traditional backing. Definitely takes this song to a new place which of course is exactly what folksongs have always been about.

I have been playing music a long time. When I was growing up my brothers had a band called the Regal Tones which was quite popular in our little town in upstate New York State. They got bitten by the music bug and later went on to found the p... [see more]
