I Am Aware

Description
This song is exactly the other side of the coin to my last song, so to speak. The other (Everybody Feels) is about the innate goodness in people, while this one is about the rest of 'em whose faces we rarely see, but who rule our everyday lives to some degree. In fact I wrote this as a poem (apart from the last verse) in the 80's in response to a UK government whose policy was to cut the employment figures. I found it again recently and noticed how the words fit perfectly with the way Government departments, MP's and Ministers treat the public and have been acting with greed even now..... so what's new? What's changed? I think and hope Obama just might be the start of a new age of truth and responsibility in Government/s..... hope you like the song and it gets you moving, M

Lyrics
I Am Aware

I am aware, perhaps too much, of the needs and the wants of the world and such,
And yet there’s little I can do, but sympathise with people who are starving, no! Not just for food,
But a little love and a little care.

I am aware, of the ones who dare to preach and rant, as if they care,
All they want is twice their share of wealth and power,
They say it's fair.
These people too are also starved, of real compassion, ‘cause their feelings halved.

Break and ad lib

I am aware of these privileged few, posing as saviours with notions new,
They sit upon their self-made thrones,
Their hearts as yielding as granite stones,
When asked to account for their cold points of view,
Their words are just empty; and their actions few.

Break and ad lib

Rpt 1st verse

I’m calm, to a degree, but I know just what bothers me,
I get fired up, because I’m wired up,
To see what’s goin’ on in this world.
Lots of people being greedy,
Fleecin’ all the poor and needy yeah!. X2

I hope your
Obama remark is so, I have the same thoughts. This is a very catchy track. Not only are the lyrics full, the tune itself moves right along. Some great instrumentation. Not sure what all it is you playing, but it sounds like your guitar work in there. Vox as always are primo. Good stuff M.

I hope so too Russ
We've had quite a lot of greed from our politicians lately claiming all kinds of things on their so called 'expenses' running into thousands of pounds. Glad you like the instrumentation, though there's only drums, bass and two tracks of me playing guitar; as is on the left track and with a little Wah-Wah on the right track. The two runs/riffs etc. are the ultimate limit of my guitar playing expertise though I'm afraid, cheers M

love a bit of rock n' roll and this is an excellent number, it's always great to hear you play different styles Maurice and you do this one so well, a great backing.
I love the lyrics and the groove you got going here sounds great, a wonderful vocal and very much enjoyed!

Wow.
Maurice....
You keep getting better and better. This song rocks from the very opening measure. You have such skill with fashioning a song--an innate sense of what works in the arrangement and in the structure. This is superb in every way I can think of: strong, steady beat; wonderful vocal; insightful lyrics; ... and those little luft pauses sans orchestra are "choice." So fine, indeed. Keep 'em coming.
Peace.
Paul

Great Song
Love the song Maurice. Found out today that The UK has the smallest middle class, the largest group of working poor and the largest divergence between rich and poor in all of Western Europe....and it all started with Thacher... When will people wake up and find which side their bread is buttered?.... You did good...I'd like to hear this one on the radio.....Peace to you, my friend, Norman

Only one thing
wrong with your comment Norman and that is that a lot of the 'working poor' as well as others, are not working any more, but that's to do with the recession I know. The rest of the observations stand of course. I too would like to hear it on the radio..... I need the cash LOL. Thanks for dropping in to comment my friend, much appreciated, cheers M

I was unaware
You were so versatile! This is a real 180 turn for you, but it is really cool. Rockin beat and very fine vocals, and, harmonies too! But the very best thing has GOT to be that new hairdo!

Nice job, Maurice - thanks for sharing this with us!

Thanks Anne, glad you got to listen in to this and liked it..... I have to do the doo-doo (can we say that???) and the dit -dits, because my guitar capabilities are already at the peak for me and I needed a little filler between the verses. So flattering to have you as a fan Anne, regards M
