Caffinated!

Description
The opening tune of my last project (“Vertical Causation”) was a rocking instrumental called “Caffeine.” I’ve never been fully satisfied with it. It always sounded a bit sparse to me; but I didn’t want to add any more guitar, and I was never able to come up with any lyrics.

Recently, as I was listening to the original, it occured to me that some saxophone playing might fill it out rather nicely. So I sent the file to Andy Wigzell.

This is the result. Hope it’s your cup of Joe!

PS: When Andy sent the file back to me, the e-mail read “Caffeinated.” I’ve decided that this is a better title than the more sedate “Caffeine.”

Thanks for everything bro!

Grat track, and you were right about the Sax closing up the gaps. Andy did a great job on this, and so did you, A little "High Energy" Rock-n-Roll my friend, Very cool, Kudos to you both.

Your comment
reminds me of a Three Stooges episode where Curly was shaking violently. Moe asked him what was the matter, and Curly replied: "I'm in a hurry all over!"

Sax is almost always good. Just not before a fight.

Glad you enjoyed it Ed!

Well hello Holley.
I'm only my muses' secretary, and she doesn't want lyrics on this one. I know because she didn't send me any. I've learned not to argue with her...

Sounds great. Kind of remindes me of a 60's t.v. spy show.
Starring: Calchas
Also starring: Andy Wigzell
A Micheal Wark production
Allot of work went into this and it came out fantastic. You did it again man!

Saxinated
Sax is the right instrument here. Sounds a little like the Psychedelic Furs (although you are using more chords than they ever did). Good rocking instrumental!

Good choice
to ask Andy to add the saxophone. It rounds it out perfectly. Mike, how about a video of you playing that electric guitar? You guys rock!

Calchas said 125 days ago (July 19th, 2009)
Ahhh...
Apparently you remember the original posting sans sax...I always liked the energy and tightness of this track, but still felt it was lacking something. Andy gives it that extra pa-zazz, and---as you say---"rounds it out perfectly."

RE video: I don't have the means to do so or I'd consider it.

don't stare into the song art
shades of deep purple with a sax instead of the organ.

rockin instrumental Mike. great mix and neat trade offs on the sax & guitar solos. also the bass and drums really lay it out!!

I got sucked right into some art like that once
while tripping on mescaline. But that was many, MANY, moons ago...back in the dreamtime.

You were always right about DP and the organ bro. I finally went with Andy the Saxinator in order not to be so obvious! Ha ha...

Great mix, Michael
Thanks tons for including me in this very special tune. I loved the simplicity and the simultaneous depth - the richness of the guitar and the clarity of the mix - but especially liked working with you and the fact that you gave me lots of room to get tight... or go loose was key in my enjoyment level. Thanks... just can't say it enough. One of my favorite collabs ! If you ever need a sax on another project, give me first right! Oh ya, if you move the browser window around, the art gets even more crazy. Don't try this alone!

Thanks Andy!
I really like the way your sax supports the rhythm guitar in the verses, but I LOVE that wicked solo!

Believe it or not, I composed the rhythm guitar parts for the entire song in about 10 minutes. My brand new Epiphone Dot Studio was just out of the box and freshly strung, when the phone rang. Diane picked up. It was for her. She talked for 10 minutes. During that time I composed the piece, inspired no doubt by the new toy. When she hung up I played it for her. The next day I cut and pasted the drum loops. The day after that I added lead guitar and bass...And so on.

Anyway, I've always enjoyed this, but felt it was a little too "naked," UNTIL NOW.

I'll be happy to work with you anytime.

Be well friend!

this mix sounds great and the Andy's sax is a great addition to the tune - sounds like it was there all along. Kinda New Wave with balls.

Love your description Kevin...

It's true though. Until now, when purchasing New Wave, one had to buy the balls separately. I hope to change all that! One man CAN make a difference! Especially if a "tired old sax player" has got his back...(Can you tell me what song the phrase in quotes is from?)

LOVE SAX
This is a great musical experiment. The sax is so awesome. I don't play any horn instruments myself, but always wish I knew how to, god knows I use them a lot. It has a very good arrangement, perhaps a little bit too short of a song in my own opinion, but what I here sound awfully good! I miss some vocals to be honest, they could bring this piece up to heaven! Great job, thank you!

Niiiiice
This is honestly some of the (possibly THE) crispest rock I've heard. When I read the genre, I didn't expect such a blast in my headphones. Andy's sax heats it up well. You're right about something feeling a little sparse though... Maybe it needs a stronger melody? I hope you find that missing piece; the energy here has great potential. You've got a grip on making all the instruments fit seamlessly together. Thanks for the experience!

The addition of the sax was great and added to a sort of underground coffee house jam session feel to it. A real coffee house, not Starbucks. Kudos Big Bro! You're "way cool", Dude. : )

octane tune! Love the energy and interplay between the instruments. I noticed how you panned the sax at one point--really liked that. Andy did a great job on this as usual. Scintillating collab, boys.:)
