Description

This song is vaguely about sex, but it's not explicit. I was coming home from work the other night around 10:30 and when I got to my street, I couldn't drive to my house. WHY? Because some gangbanger was running around with a gun and they had my street blocked off. I really just wanted to go inside and get a snack, but since that option wasn't available, I decided to try and teach myself how to write drum parts on the piano roll. Thank goodness for laptops. I sat on the curb with the helicopters, riot squad and police dogs around me and did the drum part for a couple of hours. spent way more time on the drums than the rest, as just as I was getting into recording the next day, my wife called to tell me her friend was on the way. aaaargh. anyways, this is trashy, loud, fast , fuzzy and sloppy (and a 2.5 minute pop song). felt good to play these guitars.

I deleted the last version and just added more high end to the bass and drums which were pretty muddy sounding. Sounds a little better. Sloparts and Bryn gave some helpful advice (although really it's supposed to sound pretty trashy). Thanks guys.

hey bryn
thanks. I looked at the EQ and the rhythm section was all in the 180-200 Hz range. added a little mids to the drums and took off some of the bass at 200. do you know if there is a way in Logic to look at all of your tracks at once to get an idea of where everything is sitting in the mix EQ wise. how do you deal with that on your mega projects? do you write things down? tips always looking for tips (although a pat on the back is always nice too).

	ed thanks for the tips. i always forget to check where the EQ is (laziness). i really am trying to make a point to get more conscientious about the that stuff; after all, I do have all of the necessary equipment. got nothing but time, so hopefully the sonic experimentation will bear some fruit eventually. 	you know i can pretty much make time for music anywhere. i always have my computer with me (just in case i get a few minutes). it was actually good as it made the night less stressful. if i had waited, I probably would have gotten lazy and used a drum loop. thanks for listening. sounds like The Pixies kicking Bay City Roller's butt at a Cheap Trick concert. Sorry for all the easy pot shots - couldn't help myself. True is the drums are awesome the bass is fantastic and the siren guitar is perfect for the subject and situation you were in. Then the vocals so good. Sorry to hear about the street hassle - but you got some cool work done as a result - sitting on the curb. New genre - gutter punk.

i totally thought the same thing when it was done. except in my version it was "what a frikkin pixies rip-off; except for the bridge: what a cheap trick rip-off." ahh, who cares, just having fun with noise. backups are bugging a bit, but maybe some other time. thanks so much for the listen. i have a feeling this would sound much better live.

yeah man. love to hear you let loose and break out the in-your-face guitars again. I really like the trashiness of the verses juxtaposed with the poppy chorus. reminds me a lot of the pixies and breeders. crazy stuff going on in your neighborhood, huh? here too. a couple weeks ago a guy got shot 3 times in my driveway (literally). Luckily my kids slept through it, but freaky nonetheless. we considered moving, but no neighborhoods are 'safe' around here these days

sounds cool. an interesting story. there was some guy with a machine gun shooting couple blocks from my house when i was in middle school. was shooting towards the freeway randomly and such they had to put my school on lockdown. actually i think that happened again in 10th grade cuz some person killed a guy at 7-11. like how the vocals sound.
