Hilbert Space (Not Quite the Cauchy Mix)

Description

This piece has a definite Post-Industrial Classical Space Ambient feel to it, except this mix weaves in and out of musical focus, or at least the aural illusion is one of not quite 'this' or not quite 'that'. It is only bounded by the envelope of the music, and you'll probably realise what I mean as you listen. I can't explain it any more than that.

I put this together a few days ago and then struggled with working out the details of what I'd mixed, and today I think I know what is going on.

There is a theme, underlying the mix, and then the sparklies come in and out of the focus of the listener, lulling them into and out of where they think they are in the soundscape.

Quantum mechanical ambience
The infinite-dimensional vector space classical Reinholt space ambient (space appears twice!). You will never achieve the Cauchy complete mix. You will need an infinite set of orthogonal instruments. But it will be fun trying. Haha. You have already provided enough unit vectors to mark the eigenfunction spot and point the eigenfunction way. Wonderful.

Hi Duane.......
All roads lead to Rome, or so my old woodwork teacher used to say. He believed that parallel lines met eventually so maybe he was teasing, and not telling us that he meant in Hilbert Space, not real space.

The 'phased' effect of the sparklies gave me the idea of Hilbert Space and the ideal of the Cauchy Spot, the perfect mix maybe, was and still is a long way off, if possible at all, which you allude to in your comments. I could make instruments orthogonal but they wouldn't play very well afterwords, except for Industrial genre music.

I think I'll keep plugging away at this, to at least be satisfied that I explored, via sound, a very small part of the State Space of Music. (And that's another story)!!

Hi Henke.....
Thanks for stopping by.....I read all sorts of stuff and, over the years, have come across all sorts of facts, theories, proofs, concepts, delusions, beliefs, systems of thought, schools of thought, academies of thought, and on and on, ad infinitum. It seems everyone has an opinion on something and even if they don't they will make something up. It is ALL truth and it is all lies, but lies waiting to be proved.

The music I was playing with when I put together this piece reminded me of the concept of Hilbert Space, so couldn't resist comparing the two together. I need to get out more.
