Lyrics
The weather is cold for the time of year,
And the wind hasn’t stopped all day.
It’s slowed down the coming of summer, I fear,
It just blew it away.
I saw the young men in the centre of town,
Their faces scowling and their spirits down,
They needed someone who could not be found
To make them live again.
In coffee house windows the old eat cake;
They’ve seen bad times before.
Their own youth was squandered for freedom’s sake
On another great war.
Their conversation edged with bitterness,
Not realising they helped make this mess,
Their greed for more has only brought them less,
And they know who to blame.
Oh summer,
You’re hiding, but I know you’re near.
Oh summer,
Shine a little light down here,
Because I know they wouldn’t feel this way
If the sun could warm the people on the street today.
Oh summer,
Shine a little light down here.
