Description
After posting the original and getting some excellent feedback on the mix, I decided to make a few adjustments in the mix. Most of the changes are subtle and involved the drum tracks, but I also went through the rest of the tracks and did to some other level changes, particularly on the on the piano and bass.

As I said on the first mix, I've always loved Frank Sinatra's version of this song. I Hope you enjoy the new mix of this classic from before they had color TV and FM radio.

Lyrics
One for my Baby (and one more for the road)
By: Ed Wemmerus
Written by: Harold Arlen & Johnny Mercer 1943

Its quarter to three,
Theres no one in the place cept you and me
So set em up joe
I got a little story I think you oughtta know

Were drinking my friend
To the end of a brief episode
So make it one for my baby
And one more for the road

I know the routine
Put another nickel in that there machine
Im feeling so bad
Wont you make the music easy and sad

I could tell you a lot
But you gotta to be true to your code
So make it one for my baby
And one more for the road

Youd never know it
But buddy Im a kind of poet
And Ive got a lot of things I wanna say
And if Im gloomy, please listen to me
Till its all, all talked away

Well, thats how it goes
And joe I know youre gettin anxious to close
So thanks for the cheer
I hope you didnt mind
My bending your ear

But this torch that I found
Its gotta be drowned
Or it soon might explode
So make it one for my baby
And one more for the road
And one more for the road

Thanks Feter
I took your comments about the drums to heart and did a little adjusting on them, among other things I did to the mix. Glad you stopped to check out the new mix my friend and liked it better than the first one.

Be well and be cool,

cover
Ed, I'm sure you know about the "no cover" rule on MJ. Well I for one I am super happy you are thumbing your nose. I have a couple I've been dying to post. Maybe we can start a revolt! A populist uprising! They can't kick us all out right? Hell, you can post them on iComp, why not here?
Now about the song, everyone is right, the mix on this is stellar, I mean really close to perfect, and I am a stickler for that stuff. The Mackie monitors in my studio are the ultimate text and they are cranked right now and I tell ya the mix is crystalline! The playing is lovely as is the delivery of the vocals. Well done!

I figured,
that since the song was written in 1943, it was old enough to be a classic and not really anything that could still be considered as a cover. Hopefully, I'm right about that. As for the revolution, I'll leave that for the young folks to work out on their own, Been there, done that don't ya know.

Thanks for the feedback on the performance and the mix Philip. It's sometime very hard to know if I've got it where it needs to be, especially since the ears don't work like they used to anymore.

Glad you liked the way the song came out my friend, and thanks again for dropping in to listen to it.

Be well and be cool,

Ed

Vibes, I love Vibes
Why I didn't think of that I'm not sure. But the tight little combo worked so well I guess I just didn't want to mess up the feel of it.

Thanks for listening Dave, and the wonderful comment on it, I really appreciate it my friend. Glad you enjoyed the song .

Well, it's one of...
...the best songs anyone ever wrote.... A friend of mine did an outstanding acoustic guitar based version some years ago...

The piano is relaxed and warm, and the vocal is relaxed and has a nice, slow swing.... Like the upright bass, too...

Thank you Ed
Very pleased you came over for a listen and enjoyed the song. It's always been one of my favorite songs, but I never thought I'd ever record a version of it. Now that it's done I'm really kind of happy with the results, if I do say so myself.

Thanks again for listening and the kind words my friend.

and you're right, you could mix till the end of time, and still not think it's right.

But pretty good will work in this case.

Thanks again for coming back for seconds and the kind word my friend.

Croon it!
Very nice mix - the music sits real warm and your vocal rides in there just fine! I'll take bourbon in a glass with a few cubes - Kentucky mash preferred.

Thanks for listening John. This has always been a favorite of mine, just never tried to sing it before now.

Glad you enjoyed my take on this old classic, and sent along the kind words. Thanks again for stopping in John,

That settles it, it is now official
I am an "Old Coot" Jack said it so it must be true. I will wear this badge of distinction with honor, and try to never let the "young whipper-snapper" generations down.

Thanks Jack, I really appreciate that comment my friend. Best thing that's ever been said about a song I've done. Glad you enjoyed this one jack.
