Description
We all make choices that we have to live or die by. A regular song about a regular guy. Inspired by a hundred thousand small town bars across America and the folks who call them home. Lyrics by my bro' Andrew.

Lyrics
Frank’s Song
(c) 2009 Andrew V.

Frankie lived down by the Delco Plant
He worked the night shift making battery acid
After work each night he’d go down to Kelly’s
Get drunk and drive on home and watch him some T.V.

And he’s a good joe.
Hangovers come and hangovers go.

Friday night Frank decided to do it up right
Scored a couple ‘a Tulenols and a Jim Beam pint
Went up to Kelly’s lookin’ for his girl June
Found her with some Airforce guy dancin’ to a slow tune.

And he’s a good joe.
And good joe’s come and good joes go.

Frankie drove back home and picked up his gun
A .38, enough to get the job done
But back at Kelly’s things didn’t turn out so good.
And Frankie bought that farm

He was a good joe.
But good joes come and good joes go.

Cool shit!
Love the guitar and bass on this one. Reminds of something but can't put my finger on it. Love the guitar solo: simple yet fitting. Vocals are excellent. Oh, it has a bit of BRMC in it!? Great stuff man!!!!

BRMC
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club? Do I have that right? Can't keep up with your posts these days Mikki! I am a few behind. You are one of my inspirations here at MJ. Anyone who hasn't been to Mikki's page who is reading this, do yourself a favor, GO! The man is a genius, and no one beats his songs cover art either!

been a while
since i visited your page.. need to get here more often!
good all around tune. it seems to be a theme here lately, with story songs. they must be making a comeback. in the 70's, they were the rage, with everyone having a story to tell. yours is the cautionary, don't drink and shoot someone with a .38.....as always, excellent production, everything rang out and stayed in the pocket.
thanks for the post......

Stories
Allen, High praise for an axeman of your caliber. I agree, I think the story song is making a comeback. remember a few others from the 70's, "Brandy", "The Wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald", "Alone Again, Naturally", heady stuff. The funny thing is, deep down, the stories never change. Thx for the props on the mix.

All cleaned up
and spankin' fresh! The drums are excellent; solo, too. That's a VERY impressive vocal performance, friend... (perfect delivery on "Kelly's"!), perfectly produced with plenty of 'air'.

An old theme, but a new gem.

Hat's off!

vox
Thanks SJ, I know you know that Logic's quick swipe comping tool is my best friend now, don't you. Don't tell anyone, but this vocal is cherry-picked from about 9 passes at it. You more than anyone know how challenged I am in that arena. Oh, how you have suffered. That take of "kelly's" was a keeper though, I have to admit.

Rockin out again
After the recent collabs with SJ, I thought you'd sold your rock mojo, but it seems someone returned it airmail. Great Springsteen-esque small time lyric, grrreat guitars, and an all round top tune! Nice to hear you turning the amps up again.

excellent rock tune. vocals and guitars in top form.

Frankie shoulda just cried in his beer instead. But, then I guess it would have to a country western tune

Great straight up rocker
neat - with a beer chaser. Love the lead - loose, relaxed and in the pocket. Nice job on the vocals - and tell Andrew he wrote a good one.

Poor Frank
dude, your vocals sound great here, a really good performance (your intonation on "down to Kelly's"!)
Strong chorus with some good harmonies.
I love a nice, neat solo with some vocals over the top, really sells a live vibe.
A good lyric, too. Glad none of my hangovers have ever turned out that bad.

Thing that
grabbed me first was what a fantastic sound this is. Totally pro sounding mix.
Great driving song - I can see people singing along with this in the car.
You've definitely got the hang of AD as well as those fantastic guitars and bass.
The vocal is really powerful.
Downloaded. Thanks.
Cheers

Nice one, cool change up for the chorus, and then you kicked it in @ 2:15 for a lift into the lead part - excellent

Nice
Love it. Nicely done. Thanks for sharing!

I think the line "And Frankie bought that farm" ends a bit too abruptly. It's probably intentional, which is cool, but maybe one or two syllables would keep it smoother?

I wondered if you could rename Frankie Joe and have that echo "good Joe" to build on reality mixing with common expressions.

Great song man. Love the groove in the verses. A uber cool vox you use with taste (a Tom Petty vibe like "mary jane's last dance" to me).
And that final solo, omy.
Cool (and sad) story.
Trying to catch up with your music man. Love your stuff.
