Description
This song grew out of an exercise I put upon myself to increase my chord vocabulary. No lyrics, but maybe it will grow up to be something else one day.

Hi Feter,

Thanks for your kind comments. I've been unsure on where to peg the master volume level in GB before exporting to ITunes. Do you have any suggestions on where it should be? In the back of my mind I remember reading a post or a tip that too high a volume in this situation can lead to problems, but I think I may have erred on the low side

Thanks for the listen speedoni - glad you liked it. I route the bass into the Line 6 Pod which is a guitar amp simulator. Good for boosting the signal some, and reverb, although it is mainly for guitar (They have one for bass that I'm too cheap to buy). Then the out on the Pod gets routed into the In on the Presonus firebox. The firebox is the analog to digital converter.

Hi Shadows,
Thanks for the listen, and your comment. As you've discerned, the ending is of the "cut and paste" variety for now. I did this b/c I am having problems maintaining a consistent sound for the analog instruments between recording sessions. I maintain a spreadsheet for all of the guitar settings, amp settings, levels but somehow it never seems to add up to a reproducible sound. The other alternative - redoing the entire part - is sometimes not feasible due to time constraints. But the better ending, and some sort of bridge is on the to-do list for the song.

Thanks for dropping by, glad you liked what you heard of it. I've since learned that I need to have the master volume set to 0 upon export to Itunes. I have some more plans for the song, so the low level will be fixed in the next version.

One must push oneself
believe me, look what not pushing has done to me! Anyway, good start here. I think you just need to take the plunge and throw some lyrics on this bad boy. If you are primarily a guitarist, play some lead over it and record it. If there is a melodic passage in there you like... bam, there is a line from your song then build on it. That is how I do it. Like the progression, time to take her up a notch! Good job so far.

I saw your question to Feter
About volume and garageband. I just learned this, you either need to look at your level meter in garageband on the loudest part of the song and make sure it is just touching the red but not buried in the red. Better yet, just use audacity (free) and use the dynamic compressor. If you dont want to use it you dont, just click the "autoset volume" button (called something like that) and voila, you are set.
crissew said 36 days ago (October 19th, 2009)
And a third thing
setting the master volume to zero will NOT fix the problem. It depends on how high your levels are on the individual tracks. See the message above.

Thanks for dropping by and listening Charles. Lyrics are an uncharted territory for me, but I've been interested in learning this as well. However, I can hear a melody line for this one, so maybe I'll try that out on the piano after I get the new one uploaded. Your advice about the levels is appreciated, and mirrors the comments from offsite producer/engineer friends.

Nice feel to this.
It could indeed grow up to be something someday Dave. Need to run your volume right up to the point just before the meter gets into the RED on the final mix of all the tracks.

Like where you're going, keep it up man.
