prone to melody
Lots of room for a vocal melody in there....

Contemplative, serene, drifting

Yes...

I had the same thought when I came up with this. Who knows... more developments may lie in the future for this one. Thanks Harold.

guitar tone....

I thought the tone was interesting... then I wasn't sure if it was good enough right after posting it. Thanks for the reinforcing my first instinct.

turn off the thoughts....

Andy, isn't that the truth. This tune did that for me. It's encouraging to know it connected with you the same way. Thanks.

gentle sparkles
glisten like beads of light on your guitar strings, very enjoyable listen this morning. Interesting tone on the guitar, almost had an ever-so-slightly muted quality, not bad at all, but gave it character... without losing the sparkly highs, very nice.

Good
choice of tone - it definitely adds a real glisten to the cool chord phrasing and picking. Love the little bridge part in there with the drones.
Dadai.2 said 3026 days ago (August 11th, 2009)
thanks Boss...
It's gladdened my heart to get confirmation on the choice of the "sound-tone" thing for the guitar. I appreciate you taking the time to listen.

droning on...

Set-up...

Hey there. The Washburn guitar with a Dean Markey pick-up into the Zoom A2 acoustic effects pedal straight into the M-Audio MobilePre, no mic. Everything was mixing after that. Thanks for asking and thanks much for taking the time to listen.

cheers,
Jack

Nice... But for me, it`s better for the evening on the beach, sun set and calm sea.. :)
Very relaxing guitar, and Skean have right, you should try to put in this some vocal... :)
I like it a lot :)

Stands on its own quite nicely....
I listened on headphones and over my speakers....

The stereo effect is very nice over the phones. Since I can see you going this route with future songs very profitably, I'll say that, again over headphones, the a2 imparts a nice ringing sonority, but also a slight buzz and a very slight metallic distortion. Not audible at all over speakers. I might suggest running the pedal into an amp and mic'ing the amp, or combining an amp and mic sound with a direct sound and seeing if that would clean things up.... I bet that pedal would sound great in a live performance setting...

This reminds me of Mystic Midnight Dance, which still sits happily on my desktop for playing along to....

Dadai.2 said 3025 days ago (August 12th, 2009)
you're on the money....

Ed,you know this is what was my biggest hurdle mixing the guitar. One, the metallic distortion and 2 the buzz. The buzz was, in part, due to using a pick-up with the Washburn. I removed most of it via Audacity. With the Ovation acoustic/electric I don't think I would have had the problem (much cleaner in-line). But I did think afterward that I should have also mic'ed the guitar as you suggested. Mic'ing the guitar via an amp I hadn't thought of, but I think you are right on that one as well. When practicing this tune through my amp I didn't notice the distortion. The A2 is a fun pedal, but being low-end it takes some dedicated tweaking when using certain settings.

Shades of MMD as it is the same open tuning. And as a guitar-only it is in the same vein as Acoustic Nightshade in which I also used the Washburn and the A2.

I beginning work on a new one... it'll be the first one in quite a while with a full band set up... time for some pop-rock.

Thanks for the ideas... and for taking the time to visit.

i got my feet wet
now this is how i start working out when coming up with a song... a great way to get into the zone. Sounds like you are in the zone on this one.
a very nice piece in its own right.

Dadai.2 said 3025 days ago (August 12th, 2009)
wet zones...

Speaking of getting in a zone. I was doing practice recordings with different A2 effects, just playing for 30 seconds of so. When I put this last setting on and began recording I just kept going. I was only vaguely sure where I was going chord structure-wise and whatnot... When I was done and listened, I liked it - and then saw it was over 6 minutes... whoa that went quick I thought. Crazy way to make a song, eh?

Thanks Vic...

I thought I already commented on this one, Jack
but maybe I forgot to hit post. A Senior moment to be sure.

Anyway, the Guitar sounds very good on this one. I keep waiting for the rest of the band to start up, and then I realized that this is it. An "it" is very soothing and calming.

Relax and let it flow. nice peaceful track, Jack. I love it.

a comfy fit
my blood gently flows though my veins and arteries, patiently

i can hear every string as they sing

time doesn't always flow at the same rate, not now

the space is big, but not too big, just right: a comfy fit for one soul

to contemplate

thanks

Skeleton
This is a refreshing track. I can't speak to the technical, recording issues (I'm good at going with what I get; no so good at getting what I was going for!), but the progression and feel of this are a mighty nice skeleton to build onto. I might hear it as complete if it were much shorter (a segue track, say), but as it is I think it demands a liitle more. Enjoyed!
