Description
Wrote and recorded this rough demo a while back. I'd been through a rough patch with my demons and had come out the other side when I wrote this. I sang this for two different friends and they each said the same thing; "did you write this about me?'I think something is working for the song to get that reaction.

This is the first blush of the idea, still rough, with some distorted guitar, pitchy vocals. I've been meaning to re-do it properly, but meanwhile I've learned to like this version and the paint's-still-wet feel.

Lyrics
Comin’ Into The Light

I see the sun peeking through
Now its lightin’ up pearls
Of the sweet mornin’ dew

Been in the dark too long
Now the birds greet the day
With their chattering song

Now I can see my way
In the clear light of day
Comin’ into the light

I was chasin’ shadows around
On the loney streets of a
Hard luck town

Nearly ran out of breath
I was runnin’ too fast
Scarin’ myself to death

Now I can see my way
In the clear light of day
Comin’ into the light

Fillin’ my lungs one breath at a time
Not looking over my shoulder
Like a kid running free in the summertime
Not worried ‘bout getting older

Feelin’ stronger again
Get behind the wheel
Take the world for a spin

Jump right into the lake
Now you come up for air
And you’re fully awake

Now I can see my way
In the clear light of day
Comin’ into the light

guitar
really well played. raw, yes, but that's part of the charm. maybe a bit more of a bassline would sound good if you redo it. but great work

Always look forward
to your recordings. love the earthy sound to your music. Another excellent song. Sometimes the raw sound works well... for another example see rsorenson's "coward by the lake". I doubt that song would sound as good high quality. Thanks for posting. Fav'd ya of course!!

Cool song
The music is an excellent fit to the lyric. I especially like the "lightin' up pearls" and "Take the world for a spin" lines. Those demons can make things rough but the most interesting music can arise out of one's struggles with them.

Love this
I also love the description of "paints-still-wet". That great sound of even you're not 100% sure how the song goes. Reminds us that we're not creating songs as much as we are unearthing them.

As much as I'm desperately trying to improve my recording/mixing skills, it does my heart good to see people appreciate the art behind a lo-fi production.

Great song - definitely a universal theme
beautifully expressed - and well played. I hear a little John Martyn in this - but it's all you for sure. Really well done.

Lovely song...

John, there's nothing like pulling away from those "demons" and finding the bright side of life again. A beautiful, perfectly understated performance that captures a hopeful moment and outlook. Thanks for sharing.

Wonderful lyrics and melody, John
I can hear the potential in this song, but I think one thing that would be good was if you slowed it down just a little. While it has some awesome lyrics, there is no time to dwell on them.

They need a little time to breath and let the audience soak them in. I'm not talking really slow here, just a little slower.

Can't wait to see where you go with this one John. I'll be listening for the next version.

Simple but Great
A very pleasant and simple song but straight to the listeners' ears. The acoustic guitar playing is brilliant. Cheers / Mike

This has a nice honesty to it
And when you re-do the tune to up the technical quality, the challenge will be to preserve that personal feeling. Fav'd. Thanks John.

Coming Into The Light
I like songs of hope, and light is a really powerful metaphor that many will recognise and look for in troubled times. You write that you're coming into the light, not there yet, so it's fitting that the song production isn't finished at the moment! Thank you for a good song; I look forward to the next version!

There in the Light
Make no mistake John, these songs you are posting are top shelf. Make some product, man, get some air under your feet, there is a whole new world about to open up. Naturally healing and helping, you are where you need to be on the wheel.
That vocal aint half bad either...

If this is rough...
Blimey. Very lovely. Too much work sounds too finished these days. I would rather pitchy vocals (and they're hardly that pitchy) any day. I really like the simplicity of the delivery, and that nice linear feel to the start of each verse before it breaks into the melody. Really nicely restrained.
