Always Been an Outlaw

Description
Same deal as the last song I posted - on vacation and wanted to record a temporary version of a song I wrote so I don't forget how it goes. Still not sure if I'll redo them though as I like the charm of the lo-fi-edness.

The lyrics are about an outlaw sitting down with a newspaper man for an interview.

Lyrics
they call me a killer
I guess I've always been
same as my daddy
and his daddy before him
I once killed a man in Mexico
just to watch his color leave
so if you're lookin for an outlaw, son
I guess I've always been one

they've called me a sinner
I guess I've always been
same as my mama
and her mama way back when
I sold my soul for riches
and I'm cold as stone inside
so if you're lookin for an outlaw, son
youre standing right beside one

one more thing to tell you
before you up and go
one more thing to tell you
that I think you should know
if you ever double-cross me
boy you'll wish that you had died
cuz youre dealin with a devil
you got nowhere to hide

nice
I liked the guitar playing on this one, esp. the slide.
last stanza has the always cool combination of inevitability and surprise!
enjoyed.

thanks
yeah a lot of those old songs have simple yet so appropriate solos, and they usually followed the vocal melody. glad you picked up on that. thanks for listening

Cool song idea
I think it would sound better an octave lower in the vocal, a la johnny cash. I dont know if your voice is low enough but that is what came into my empty vessel (head) when I heard this song.

country lo-fi
Another great song.
You should do a whole LP of stuff like this and call them the 'air-con recordings' ;-)
It's odd the things that pin hole mics pick up that you wouldn't hear in 'proper' recording' like the scraping of the strings as you slide over them ( nice slide guitar BTW)
Cool track
Enjoyed

Outlaws and journos
Love your cowboy phase. Much cooler than Clapton's. Obvious nods to Cash but this is 100 percent you. I love outlaw songs.

Random story: When I was like 10 my brother and I were riding around with my dad and there was a news report about 2 Live Crew, NWA and others. My dad was disgusted and told us he never wanted us to listen to music that glorified violence and drug use. We agreed because... well, it's dad. Anyway, he changes the channel to the country station and he gets fired up when the announce "Cocaine Blues" and sings along with the line "Early one mornin' while makin' the rounds. I took a shot of cocaine and I shot my woman down..." We were so confused that day. Story time over.

Stories
I love a good story in a song. Kind of sounds like a guy who really wants to be an outlaw. Like the kid in the movie "Unforgiven". Is he really an outlaw or is he putting on a show for the newsman? Great slide work!

just to watch his color leave
Great line, as good as the mythical "I shot a man in Reno/just to watch him fall."
