Description

This one is for my son, scientist, clever bugger and all round nice guy. The title was his idea. Slow and gentle, just like him really.

Only three minutes, but it's taken me a long time to put this together. A combination of Albino, EXPS24 and Zebra synths, with a Logic bass setting.

It's not really ambient, but I don't know where to fit it in. Can't we have an"electronica" genre please? Anyway, have a listen, and thanks if you do!

	Wanted... Dead AND Alive Glad I opened this box... I like the way this slowly unfolds, nice sets of synth voices. You keep the voicings nice and clear. Rather unusual chord progressions, but it grows on you. Dead AND Alive!

Ha! I like that. This tune has grown on me so much, I sleep each night with the melody ringing in my head. I've spent so much time working on the synths you see, many little glitches that were very difficult to get rid of. There are still some in there btw, but hopefully not too noticeable.

and the MJQ are right up there amongst my favourite jazz musicians, so to be compared to them [however obliquely!] is extremely flattering. I love the sound of the vibes, and have incorporated synth versions in many of my compositions. [Too many, most likely!] I would love to be able to play them for real, instead of pencilling in the notes and tweaking velocities.

Sweet is short!
Luckily there is "repeat 1"! A very nice piece of electronica(!), soothing and cool. Actually, seems the entire internet was chilled by it, cause it loaded real slow... Nice build, good sounds and dynamics. Just the way we like it :-)

(Sorry 'bout the tough start: A-E 6-1, was it? :-| BTW, they show Fever Pitch on TV right now...)

	like the vibe As Neil pointed out I wrote a song by the same name a few years ago so this caught my attention. I really like it. Very mellow cosmic vibe. It's just being there... and not. I was not aware you'd posted a song with the same name, so apologies. My son picked the title! I can change it if you like. I did a quick Google earlier to check and the only thing that came up was the name of an acappella band. Now I've found there's also a Tears for Fears track by the same name! Maybe I should change the title.

	Keep the title Nothing to apologize for. "Shrodinger's Cat" is fair play for anyone to use. It's a cool scientific hypothetical for explaining existence on the quantum level. Davambient!
I've actually got an "album" on Last.fm called just that, believe it or not. I haven't had a look at it in ages, but I expect it hasn't had that many plays.

As for production, well this one was a nightmare. The Zebra is a lovely synth and eminently tweakable, but there always seem to be residual sounds which are usually hidden. In a quiet piece like this, they become noticeable and can be really hard to get rid of. I managed with most, but not all I'm afraid. I've spent far too much time on this one tune, so in the end gave up and posted it. Maybe one day, when I become a little more adept at mixing and mastering, I'll come back and redo it. But not this week!

so warm sounding. your right, not ambient. not sure that electronica fits either though. when i hear that term I picture lightweight fluffy pop with an overly processed sounding girl singer (you hear it a lot in commercials for target). anyways, I am getting away from the point. this is great, develops nicely as it goes and sounds just tremendous. your making me want to upgrade to the paid version of zebra.

I love the Zebra synth and did pay for the full version! It's a tricky beast though, and does have a "residual noise" problem. The sounds you can get out of it are often really unsynth like, and very organic, but there are often little buzzes or squeaks, barely noticable unless you're working on a quiet tune such as this one. They can be very difficult to get rid of! But it has been worth the price of paying, imo. Having said that, the free CM magazine version is excellent, and yours for the price of the magazine too.
