Description
Well, we haven't done anything in a long, long time, but since Kelli moved to the northeast, we managed to get a little gig as a band, so I've been thinking of what sort of set to do, seeing as I could, with some planning, get some friends to sit in on drums and bass to augment our duo. So I've been opening likely candidates of the songs we recorded in Garageband to see how they could be arranged for live performance. This was one of our first songs that we wrote together that really clicked, and as originally put together it had all sort of interesting geegaws, like software strings and piano parts and multiple electric guitar tracks, but I thought it could be really nice simplified, without the extra tracks. I had to re-do the drums first as the loops I originally used got lost somewhere and I wanted to use EZ Drummer anyway. And then it made sense to replace the piano and second guitar track with one mandolin track, and sing the harmony myself rather than multitrack Kelli. So this isn't perfect and my mandolin playing is not exactly expert but this could conceivably be performed by The Fritters at our little pub gig next month. So what do you think?

Lyrics
Rocks up a hill
These are the days and these are the nights
these are the ones they warned us about all our lives.
Day in, Day out, according to plan.
whatever you get is never more than you can stand

you get a rock and you push it hard to get a start you push it hard

You keep pushing you keep pushing you keep pushing with all your will
you keep pushing you keep pushing you keep pushing rocks up a hill
and when they fall back down....you can smile.

Once upon a time in myths we're told
of a man condemned to push a rolling stone
He loved life and bound death in chains
though he was wise it was all in vain.

He got a rock and he pushed it hard to get to the top he pushed it hard

You keep pushing you keep pushing you keep pushing with all your will
you keep pushing you keep pushing you keep pushing rocks up a hill
and when they fall back down....you can smile.

You can say it doesn't matter, you can say it' will never end
you say it's meaningless, that's absurd, my friend
I only listen, I only listen for you until
you say: climber, for a climer, that's no hill.

Scorned by the gods and scorned by fate
can you dig it, baby can you relate?
It's tragic and funny the minute you know
sometimes you see and sometimes you don't

you get a rock and you push it hard

You keep pushing you keep pushing you keep pushing with all your will
you keep pushing you keep pushing you keep pushing rocks up a hill
and when they fall back down....you can smile.

We get a rock what are you gonna do when you get to the top?
will you push that rock
with all you got?

I think
this sounds so pro' instrumentally vocally and performance-wise. What a great sounding song with a very 'different' edge to it on the timing of the words i.e. "you push that rock and....". Crystal clear production, really good stuff, regards M
