Man of Constant Sorrow

Description
Traditional folk song: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Man_of_Constant_Sorrow. I recorded this with some friends last year. No loops. Keith played all percussion, I played everything else (guitars, bass, sampled banjo). We didn't use a click track which made sequencing the banjo a little difficult. Probably wouldn't have noticed it if I hadn't pointed it out.

I sang the lead vocal and some friends of mine sang 4 part backing vocals (Keith, Doug, Jenny and I). It was really fun to record.

I'd love to get an experienced banjo player to put a live banjo part in this one (hint, hint...). I don't played banjo, but I've played in bands with them before and came as close as I could with Exs24.

I hope you enjoy it.

did you use that tuning on guitar... I cant tell cuz I dont play guitar but I did try to figure it out onst on the mando and found it difficult. I am sure there are banjoist around. This is as good a rendition of this song that I've heard around these parts. Maybe someday we'll meet on God's golden shore!

Range, range, range.
Nice rock-ized version of an old timey thang. Hard to keep up with you. Talk about a broad range.. compare this to "The Cougar" and, well...

I like to mix things up. I did this one last year (I think... could have been the year before). Keith, percussion, Doug, keyboards and THE VOICE, got together in Keith's studio. We did this and 4 or 5 others. They are all covers and, unfortunately, this is the only one safe to put up here on MacJams. We did a couple of Beatles songs, a Santana song and a really unique version of "If I Only Had a Brain" from the Wizard of Oz.

Sorrow Man
Great outing, enjoy the homemade feel! Jugbands forever! Nice mix of genre featuring rock and jazz flavored hooks. Don't stop you are on the way to Little Feat.

For certain, sorrow man, for the lost brother. LG would have been our gracious King George, if not for a piece a dope...

Really, really good!
This is an excellent version! I agree that some banjo picking in there would be a nice addition, but it works great as is. It very close in feel to the Dan Tyminski version (aka the "Soggy Bottom Boys") from "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" (the tempo is identical, I think) but you've got your own feel to it, and it all sounds fully professional. Great job here!

O Brother!
This was terrific! I've Loved this song since I first heard it (at least to my recollection) in the Coen brothers' great film. Yours is a wonderful rendition. I was singing right along with you, just as I did with the film version. Great song.:)
