Description
This song is another one that I retrieved from my old reel to reel tapes, but this one was recorded a few years later than my last posting. I know this, because though I don’t recall ever singing this, it was sung through an amp and the only amp I had at that time, was one made by a friend of mine all 12 volts of it including a vibrato switch for guitar.
I also had bought a ‘Copycat’ echo machine by now, which worked by using a loop of recording tape (very effective too). I don’t know what mic’ I used, but it wouldn’t be an expensive one for sure.
I chose to post this song because I think it captures the emotion of what a lot of us feel about, or for our Mothers, especially when they’ve gone…… and I do like an emotional song.
It was written in 1925 in Poland by Jack Yellen. and I ask you to please excuse the guitar sound on this, since it sounds as though it was recorded about that same year LOL. I did consider recording a new guitar backing because it’s quite low, but thought it was best to preserve the recording as is…..It must have been recorded about 1960, when I was 26 yrs old, for my own enjoyment, well before I began singing professionally. I sang and played in one go recording into the Grundig TK20 tape Recorder and you can hear the faltering of the voice at the end, as I search for the guitar chords……. hope you like this rendition, retro though it is.
