Description
Combat Addiction (also known to fans and friends as "Hey, you guys gonna play that war song?"), is actually an anti-war song that was written by our lead singer & rhythm guitarist, Sam Dixon. In the almost three years Aphrodisiac was together, I don't think we ever played a show where this song wasn't on the set list. It was catchy, peppy, and gave you a pretty good idea of what you were gonna get for the rest of the night from us. A crowd and band favorite, it opened a lot of Aphrodisiac shows back in the day. I clearly remember it being one of the songs on Sam's crude (and WILDLY over-produced) homemade demo that convinced me I should combine forces with this guy and form a band.

As was the case with most Aphrodisiac songs, this one features some incredible lead guitar work by the amazing Shawn Tarver. (I hope you can hear it.) We were really lucky to have Shawn in the band. He was constantly being approached to join other bands. I always thought Shawn brought something special to the songs we were writing. Sam and I weren't too shabby with the tunes, but once we handed it to Shawn and told him "Hey man, do what you do" –– he would always, without fail, take the song to a whole...'nuther...level. Damn that boy was good!

Remember, these recording suck! (read the profile page)

Lyrics
Combat Addiction by Sam Dixon ©1995

Do you live in a fantasy?
Tell me where's your head?
Your words come so strange to me
Spoken like they're bled
What sensation rules your mind, to butcher foregin souls?
You may answer or decline, but I already know
You're lookin for war!
War, lookin' for war!

Do you feel the insanity, leaking from your eyes?
Your intentions are plain to see, the only tears you cry
Are those raging war!
War, those raging war!
War, those raging war!

Do you live in a fantasy?
Tell me where's your head?
Your intentions are plain to me
Spoken like they're bled
Crawlin' through the trenches as you cross the bloody fields
Does it come to memory the cultures that you kill?
While lookin' for war!
War, lookin' for war!
War, lookin' for war!

Hey Slassh,
This so does not suck. I think I'd like to hear the vocal a bit more out front. Hell, yes, the guitar solo is scathing. Excellent. Bring on some more. Thank you.

Wish I had better tapes
Everything I'm working with is 2-track and these things really do deteriorate over time. I recall them sounding much cleaner back when we first made these. But I'm glad you're enjoying them. I'm tweaking the process each week as I post new songs so maybe they'll get a little better. Thanks for listening Char.

CA
I can totally see this as the opening number. Great running vibe and heavy riffin guitar goodness. Dig the changes. Muy bien

Hey Ktb
Yeah, there's a lot of good git-box riffin' going on in that song. Glad you dug it.

And it just keeps getting more amazing : )
The music is complete, if that makes sense - something that I don't think quite happens with computer generated bits and pieces - there is no substitute for real instruments and the musicians all in sync with each other. Love the lyrics also - insightful. Another great song for the iPod!!! : )

These are songs from a rock-metal-funk-reggae band I started many years ago call Aphrodisiac. We were very talented, could draw a crowd, had a little buzz about us, and were beginning to get noticed by the right people. Naturally it all went to... [see more]
