Lyrics
FRAGILE FLYERS
Music and Poem by Bob Prince© 2009

These arguments,
spurning a lifeline.
Bed cold and wide...
deepest ocean at night

Washed in to shore.
Worn out as one.
We share the warmth
of the sand.

Through embraces and fights,
morning through the night...
these are the times
that I love you.

Like paper planes
circling a canyon,
apologies
find a safe place to land.

And then the wind
blows them away,
and we're adrift
once again.

Through embraces and fights,
morning through the night…
these are the times
that I love you.

Ignore you

Adore you

Spectacular
Haunting and beautiful… Spectacular playing of spectacular music! I like the way you thwart predictability… There are progressions that sound a bit like ones I've heard before, but always with unexpected twists… Parts of it remind me of some of Leo Brouwer's studies, but it's definitely your own original voice that shines through. Wow! THis is substantial!!!! This is first rate music. I do not exaggerate… I am truly impressed. Congratulations!

The Brouwer studies...wow...I hadn't thought of that. I did play them and, yes...I hear that. Good ear, maestro!

Bravo!
Bob this is magnificent..... I'm just so stuck for words except to say that I sat in awe at the versatility of this piece and the wonder at the way your fingers pick the high strings while the bass notes are being played in a sort of counter melody.... just beautiful.... and the build up to the one note at 3.33 was terrific. Excellent, apart from the lovely poem, regards M

This is just enchanting, Bob...
...and maybe 'entrancing' does it justice, too... Great clarity and depth, and the playing has really nice articulation and time without sounding stiff or mechanical or rote... In fact, it really has a great, organic sound, both bright and resonant... Nicely paired with the accompanying poem...

Something Very Special
Bob, I think this is some of (if the THE) best work I have heard from you. The direction of the piece is so absolutely clear and the security of each time change and those luscious chords that seem to just float seamlessly give the listener a sense of being in the presence of a musician who is in full control of his instrument and the poetic images that are propelling the composition. This is truly outstanding in every way. Bravo. I hope you will write more pieces that are so filled with style and polish. Just wonderful.
Peace.

Me, too
I really dig this, I mean. Beautiful composition and performance.
Really admire the poem, too. Been working on a song about the ups and downs of my 20 year marriage. And your lines "adore you...ignore you" pretty much nail the subject in four words.

Story telling
This is excellent stuff. Too many acoustic pieces come down to picking chords with here an there an accented note. This piece has actual melodies, and lots of variety, in tempo, texture, and mood. Very good stuff.

Nice Spanish guitar sound...
Very pretty melodies in this long yet satisfying piece.

First part put me somewhat in mind of King Crimson's "Lady Of The Dancing Water" (Lizard album); but then it takes OFF!!!

Wowee Bob. This is the first acoustic piece I've heard at MJ that seriously competes with some of thetiler's best work.

How SUITE it is...

Hi Micheal
You know I love King Crimson.

The poem was, originally, supposed to be spoken, split within the beginning and end of the piece. I decided to keep it an instrumental, so I wrote the melody line, in both parts, with the same meter.

Hi...
The lyrics are actually a poem. I was thinking of singing it...as it's got the same cadence and meter as the beginning and ending of the piece. Was going to split it between the two parts.

But I opted, in the end, to leave it as an instrumental with an accompanying poem.

Thanks, Mike.

Hi Bob
Great varity in this one. I was kept guessing where it would go next. I was fooled by a harmonic at one point which I thought signalled the end. It was in fact the start of that wonderful Bach-like section.
Great playing and excellent capturing of the Martin's tone. The balance across the strings is perfect. Sorry - too busy listen to read the poem just yet!
All the best
