Description
I wrote this a while ago and i am still not sure about it. It is written with a 12/8 feel, mainly off the back of the bass riff. I am loving playing a real bass. All the keyboards are from logic and played using the midi keyboard, there is a drum loop in places but i tried to change it around quite a bit. I have tried out some new things in the mix, an expander and exciter, whether or not i should be using them is another matter. There is no compression on the final mix, because with the other two plugs in it all sounded a bit too much. I did most of the mix whilst i still had a full hearing range. I did not use any guitar this time, but i have played along with it and thought there might be possibilities.

some very cool subtle changes you create with just the bass exploring different rhythmic pulses and key changes. That said, I think the mix sounds quite solid. The spoken vocal parts are nicely spaced and add some added flavor & ambience.
I do miss your guitar work tho :-)

My son wants to know if Bazzer is packing a shotgun or a rocket launcher in his right hand. Ahhhh the youngs fascination with weaponry..lol

hey mate. Yeah, i miss the guitar, but there comes a time....
Mate, i know nothing about shooters except a spud gun, hardly macho enough for the real men! I have it on good authority that they are copies of some heavy duty killing machines, sorry i can't be of any more help to the young chap than that, but it is relevant that you mention the facination. Cheers

Sorry about the hearing issue...
...that must make things a bit more difficult...but, frankly, I think you're doing much more than just a "creditable job", here. And on your other pieces, as well.

I'm sure you know about Beethoven.

Very cool piece...nice work

Expanded and excited
No guitar!? Well, it's good to stretch out, isn't it? What a beautiful mix. Another masterful use of vocal samples. Lots of ambient flavor. I didn't get the 12/8. Good topic for some social commentary, if only implied. Cool picture. Stay out of the water!

like what you did here. It has a laid back, but serious feel to it.

Really enjoy all the little sounds going on too. Enjoyed.

Real Men Play Real Bass
Most of my songs have MIDI bass, hey wait a minute. I think this mix sounds great on my cheap set up so that usually means in the studio it will sound great. Very creative again in your use of everything.

I just love your music! This has such an awesome atmospheric feel to it - I start swaying as I listen without even realizing my body is moving. Very nice Tokai!

when you going to do a new track? must be one coming i reckon. If it made you sway then it is a mission accomplished.

Ah, forty years ago his movie characters defined the quiet, confident, prudent and independent Man. He was slow to anger and feared God. He played himself in every film. Like Bogart to his generation...
Now, you have, Johnny Depp? Lol

An expander
and an exciter...hmm, sounds interesting, Tokai. Where is Bazzer's right leg?
Did he shoot it off? I like this a lot. I love that eerie high thingy that repeats like a tellstar signal. Spitlogc could lay rap onto this, I'll wager. Thank Daug for sending me over. Thanks.

Bazzer leg, yes that is a very good question? He has two currently, if i remember rightly, he copied a pose i did. I am not sure Spit would like this song, but a rap over this would be better than using a sample.

groovy
a real journey. slinky and groovy. IMHO I think that the bass and kick could be a little fuller. The highs are all there and cutting through, but the mids and lows are suffering. Like the pace of this in it's meandering glory. Cool samples.

alpha and omega.
Goodness knows Im no alpha male. Cool trip-hop/rock track. i like the that gated synth sound going on throughout the song. Nice fat bass sound. I like using the exciter in the final mix to sweeten the overall track a little. Have you tried using the Multi-presser at all? It can be very helpful in final mixes.

Nice work Steve
I like the spacila movememnt of the elements and a lot of the textural choices you made. Good handling of the vocals samples too. There are times when I'd like to have the bass grab me a bit more with a heavier bottom - some super subtones.

many thanks mate. Ok, i am going to rework this and try to add some more feeling to that bass. As it was i dialed it right down because of the past two track when i thought it was too much, can't win or can't hear so i can't tell. Thanks for your help though, i need to be told.

I did expect some guitars of course;) But it works very well without. Bet this would be cool as a sound track to a Tarantino movie. All things sounds to be in the right place. Cool mix.

cool
chilled. i can hear the bass, low light candles, smooth olive oil, even the cold artificial sodium bicarbonate drops. sorry about the health issues but musically this combination works great. almost sounds like a loose, airy structure held together only by the bass riff perfectly decorated with the vocal samples. mix is very good and transparent. distinctly reminds me of 'Orbient'.

well, if they could begin to sound anything like you have put together i would be very pleased. Still applying all the treatments but it is looking like a trip to the doctors. I am trying to finish a few tunes at the moment but it is impossible without ears!!! I am a big fan of the Orb, not that this sounds anything like them. Thanks for your kind thoughts.
